Join us on Thursday, April 19th at 6:00pm in the Library Cafe as we welcome
Fariborz Mokhtari, author of "In the Lion's Shadow: The Iranian Schindler
and his Homeland in the Second World War".
After the Nazi invasion of France in 1940 a junior Iranian diplomat, the aristocratic Abdol-Hossein Sardari, accidentally found himself in charge of Iran’s legation in Paris. Sadari began cultivating relationships with German and Vichy officials in order to protect the Iranian Jewish community throughout France. Sardari refused to abandon the Iranian Jews in France despite having no salary when recalled by his government. Dr Mokhtari argues that contrary to constant accusations Iran did not favor the Nazis, employing previously unpublished archival documents to support his thesis. This book includes the Nazi official correspondence seeking ‘expert opinion’ on the positions of Sadari.
Refreshments will be served at 5:30pm and a book signing will follow the presentation. Book copies will be available for purchase. Be sure to mark your calendar for this special event!
