The Delaware State Police are investigating the alleged gunpoint robbery of an elderly runner by two men Monday night, October 17th at 8:20 p.m., as he was running on an athletic track behind George Read Middle School in the Penn Acres development.

Two men approached the victim from behind—one of them armed—and demanded his property.

The victim began to run away and the gunman fired several rounds in his direction. The would-be thieves, meanwhile, ran off empty-handed.

Police urge the public to be alert to their surroundings, walk in pairs and avoid congregating or walking through dark or unlit areas. On evenings when students are asked to park off-campus, University Safety will provide additional security coverage in these areas.
