Mission Statement

The Wilmington University Alumni Relations Department is committed to building and sustaining a lifelong relationship with the University and the Alumni in the spirit that defines Wilmington University. The Alumni Relations Department is guided by the University mission and institutional values of respect, integrity, opportunity, responsiveness, innovation, education, experience and caring for our Alumni as friends and partners.

Alumni Relations Department

In January 2008, Dr. Jack P. Varsalona established the new Alumni Relations department under the leadership of Dr. Thomas B. Cupples, Assistant Vice President in the Office of the President. Pattie Jennings has been coordinator of Alumni activities for a number of years and brings a wealth of experience to the department. Brandi Purcell adds her administrative expertise to the group as they have started to update the alumni data base and use new software that will aid in keeping in touch with the alumni. Gloria Johnson will coordinate the Annual Fund and other activities that will benefit our students and enhance our educational programs. Jane West coordinates major events for the University and will now have prominent involvement with the planning and implementation of alumni events and activities.

One of the first tasks of the new department was to attend a two day retreat at which they and Dr. Cupples wrote a Department Mission Statement and strategic plans for operations. There are six major alumni events planned through April 1, 2009 that will be announced in the near future. The first event scheduled was the very successful Education Alumni Celebration on May 1, 2008. The group is currently in the midst of the Wilmington University Specialty License Tag Campaign that combines the opportunity to display a specialty license tag with a donation to the Annual Fund.

In the future the alumni can expect to hear a lot more from this group as they make contact with graduates. One of the immediate goals is to establish discipline affinity chapters that will sponsor individual activities for the graduates in the various majors.
