Doug Nowell - Assistant Coach

Coach Nowell comes to Wilmington University after establishing himself as one of the premier youth and high school coaches in the tri-state area. Most recently, he spent the past four seasons as the head baseball coach at Salesianum High School, were he went 74-18 and won a state championship in 2008. Coach Nowell also spent time coaching at A.I. DuPont and Delcastle high schools.

While his on-field success is noteworthy, Coach Nowell’s passion for teaching the game stands out most. His daily approach to the proper way to play baseball continues to motivate both current and former players, as well as the coaches who have worked with him. His competitiveness is contagious, but his respect for the game and his opponents remains paramount. This is clearly evidenced in his players, on the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. Coach Nowell’s love of teaching baseball is most evident off the field, where he can often be found at area parks working quietly with any player with a desire to improve- their skills.

Currently, Coach Nowell is the director of the Delaware Sabres Youth Baseball Organization, and has spent time working with the Delaware Vets/Newark and Delaware Diamonds associations. He resides in Newark with his wife Megan, along with their three children Austin (14), Brock (11), and Camryn (8).
