9/5/2009 – University of Maryland Easter Shore - Lid Lifter Invite

WILDCAT HARRIERS HAVE STRONG SHOWING AT UMES LID LIFTER INVITE
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University had a strong showing at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lid Lifter Invite on Saturday morning. In their first race of the season, the women finished fourth out of six teams, while the men were also fourth, but out of seven teams.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (127 points) were third behind eventual champion University of Maryland (21 points), West Virginia University (50 points), and St. Joseph’s University (59 points). University of Maryland Eastern Shore (145) and Delaware State University (158) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 17th in a time of 19:55. Close behind was classmate Mary Kate McCaffery (20:55/23rd place), sophomore Danielle Riley (22:10/28th place), and junior LJ Slaughter (22:21/29th place). Freshman Kristy McCrea (22:25/30th place) was the final scorer for the ‘Cats.
On the men’s side, Wilmington (133 points) was fourth behind eventual champion Maryland (38), Naval Academy (44), and Norfolk State University (47). Maryland-Eastern Shore (140), Hampton University (166), and Delaware State (168) rounded out the scoring.
The Wildcats were paced by freshmen Bill Steele’s 18th finish in a time of 27:10. Junior Paul Riggio was close behind, in 26th place (28:53). Senior Kyle Barnum (29:20/28th place), senior Chad Darlington (29:23/29th place), and sophomore Rodney Rosario (29:41/32nd place), were the final finishers for the ‘Cats.
Wilmington returns to action next Saturday morning, when they host the Ninth Annual Wilmington University Cross-Country Invitational at Carousel Park. The women start at 10:00 AM, with the men to follow at 11:00 AM.

MEN WIN WILMINGTON CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL, WOMEN PLACE THIRD
WILMINGTON, DE -- The Wildcats had another solid showing at their own, 9th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning. The men’s squad claimed the title finishing first, while the women had a strong third place showing.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (88 points) were third behind eventual champion Philadelphia University (27), and Ocean County College (69). Nyack College (90), University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (105), Chestnut Hill College (175), Bloomfield College (208), Gallaudet University (234), Cumberland County College (244), Caldwell College (271), and Wesley College (284) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 4th in a time of 21:00. Close behind were freshman Kristy McCrea (22:07/12th place), junior LJ Slaughter (22:22/16th place), and sophomore Danielle Riley (22:34/17th place). Freshman Alexis Zabielski (25:52/42nd place) was the final scorer for the ‘Cats.
On the men’s side, Wilmington (35 points) was first, just one point ahead of Philadelphia University (36). USP (69), Bloomfield (150), Howard Community College (157), Nyack (179), Chestnut Hill (187), Lincoln University (190), Cumberland (203), and Wesley College (305) rounded out the scoring.
The Wildcats were paced by freshmen Bill Steele’s 2nd place finish in a time of 28:15. Senior Matt O’Brien was close behind in 4th place (28:49). Right behind him was junior Paul Riggio (29:16/8th place), followed by sophomore Rodney Rosario (29:36/10th place). Senior Kyle Barnum (29:42/11th place) was the final finishers for the ‘Cats.
Wilmington returns to action next Saturday morning, when they take part in the University of Delaware Invite # 1 at White Clay Creek State Park. The men start at 10:30 AM, with the women to follow at 11:15 AM.

MEN WIN DELAWARE INVITE, WOMEN PLACE FOURTH
NEWARK, DE -- The Wildcats had another solid showing at the University of Delaware Invite # 1, on Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park. The men’s squad claimed the title finishing first among all Division II and III schools, while the women placed fourth.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (97 points) were fourth behind eventual champion Philadelphia University (31), and Georgian Court University (61), and Richard Stockton College (74). Stevens Institute (99), Holy Family University (159), and Rutgers-University Newark (215) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 3rd in a time of 19:56. Close behind were freshman Kristy McCrea (21:16/14th place), sophomore Danielle Riley (21:53/19th place), and junior LJ Slaughter (22:06/23rd place). Freshman Alexis Zabielski (24:23/44th place) was the final scorer for the ‘Cats.
On the men’s side, Wilmington (50 points) was first, eleven points ahead of Philadelphia (61). Rowan University (64), Stevens Institute (95), Richard Stockton (96), Holy Family (142), and Rutgers-Newark (174) rounded out the scoring.
The Wildcats were paced by freshman Bill Steele’s 4th place finish in a time of 27:15. Sophomore Rodney Rosario was close behind in 7th place (27:38). Right behind him were seniors Chad Darlington (28:12/10th place) and Matt O’Brian (28:19/12th place). Senior Kyle Barnum (28:43/17th place) was the final finishers for the ‘Cats.

MEN'S SQAUD SECOND, WOMEN PLACE SIXTH AT DON CATHCART INVITE
SALISBURY, MD -- Wilmington University ran well at the Don Cathcart Invite held at Winter Park Placein Salisbury, Maryland. The men’s squad finished 2nd out of 11 teams, while the women placed sixth among 12 teams.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (135 points) were sixth behind eventual champion John Carroll University (51), East Stroudsburg University (59), Shenandoah University (85). Salisbury University (113), and Frostburg State University (122). Virginia Wesleyan University (149), St. Mary’s College ( 246), Hood College (261), Stevenson University (269), Wesley College (337), and Anne Arundel Community College (338) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 4th in a time of 22:23, a school record in the 6k distance. Close behind were sophomore Danielle Riley (23:45/16th place), freshman Kristy McCrea (24:23/27th place), and junior LJ Slaughter (24:41/37th place). Freshman Alexis Zabielski (27:59/80th place) was the final scorer for the ‘Cats.
On the men’s side, Wilmington (66 points) was second behind eventual champion East Stroudsburg (21). Salisbury (69), Virginia Wesleyan (98), John Carroll (170), Shenandoah (198), Frostburg State (211), St. Mary’s (211), Hood (220), University of the District of Columbia (271), and Wesley (335) rounded out the scoring.
The Wildcats were paced by freshman Bill Steele’s 3rd place finish in a time of 25:47, the fasted 8k time in school history. Senior Matt O’Brian was close behind in 5th place (25:59). Right behind him were sophomore Rodney Rosario (26:13/11th place), senior Kyle Barnum (26:42/20th place), and junior Paul Riggio (26:56/27th place).

CROSS COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN CLAIM BELMONT CLASSIC TITLES
PHILADLEPHIA, PA -- Wilmington University ran a season best at the Belmont Classic held at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both the men’s and the women’s squads each gained a first place victory at the meet.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (68 points) were first, nineteen points ahead of the University of the Sciences (87). Nyack College (90), Bryn Mawr College (104), Holy Family University (124), Wilkes University (155), Cabrini College (175), Lycoming College (195), Immaculata College (210), Concordia College (226) and Rutgers- Newark (291) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 1st in a time of 19:52. Behind were sophomore Danielle Riley (21:10/7th place), freshman Kristy McCrea (21:23/8th place), junior LJ Slaughter (21:50/12th place), and freshman Alexis Zabielski (25:08/51st place).
On the men’s side, Wilmington scored a season low 24 points, thirty nine points ahead of University of the Sciences (63). Rutgers-Newark (95), Gloucester County College (131), Wilkes (142), Holy Family (148), Nyack (157), Lycoming (182), Cabrini (228), Philadelphia Biblical University (243), Concordia (328), and Immaculata (360) rounded out the scoring.
The Wildcat men posted five top ten finishers. The ‘Cats were paced by freshman Bill Steele’s 2nd place finish time of 27:24. Right behind him were sophomore Rodney Rosario (27:46) in 3rd place and senior Kyle Barnum (28:12) in 4th. The next to cross the line were senior Chad Darlington (28:32/6th place) and freshman Vinnie Trotta (28:51/9th place).

CROSS COUNTRY MEN CLAIM CABRINI INVITATIONAL, WOMEN PLACE FIFTH
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wilmington University men’s cross country squad claimed the Cabrini Invitational title, while the women’s team placed fifth in the races held at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (153 points) were fifth, behind the Penn State Club team (28), Georgian Court University (70), Philadelphia University (88), and Ramapo College (139). The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (167), Dominican College (201), Camden College (208), Holy Family University (224), Eastern University (226), Goldey-Beacom College (323), Rutgers-Newark (355), and Penn State Berks (355) rounded out the scoring.
Wilmington was led by senior Danielle Burcham, who placed 4th in a time of 19:44. Behind her were sophomore Danielle Riley (21:27/24th place), junior LJ Slaughter (21:43/26th place), freshman Kristy McCrea (21:57/32nd place), and sophomore Stacey Hamilton (29:20/81st place).
On the men’s side, Wilmington scored 45 points, twelve points ahead of Ramapo (57). Philadelphia (66), Penn State (78), Camden (148), USP (155), Rutgers-Newark (215), Holy Family (242), Bloomfield College (256), Goldey-Beacom (277), Eastern University (317), Cabrini College (324) Penn State Berks (381), and Cheyney College (442) rounded out the scoring.

Right behind him was freshman Bill Steele (26:46) in fifth place and senior Kyle Barnum (27:04) in ninth. The next to cross the line were senior Chad Darlington (27:40/16th place) and sophomore Rodney Rosario (27:54/20th place).
Wilmington returns to action on Saturday, October 24th, as they participate in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships held at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. The women start at 11:00 AM, with the men to follow at 11:40 AM.
10/24/2009 – CACC Conference Championship

BURCHAM EARNS RUNNER OF THE YEAR, STEELE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AT CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Senior harrier Danielle Burcham won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship and earned CACC Runner of the Year honors for the second consecutive year, while freshman Bill Steele captured the Men’s Rookie of the Year award a the Conference Championships.
The women’s squad finished fifth out of 14 teams, while the men were second, but among 10 teams. The races took place at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
On the women’s side, the Lady Wildcats (129 points) were fifth behind eventual champion Philadelphia University (31), Georgian Court University (61), Dominican College (122), and USP (129). Felician College (140), Nyack College (144), Holy Family University (214), Post University (258), Chestnut Hill College (275), Goldey-Beacom College (316), Bloomfield College (319), Concordia College (338) and Caldwell College (343) rounded out the remaining finishers.
Burcham crossed the finish line in a time of 19:52 for the 5k course. For her efforts she was awarded the CACC Runner of the Year award and also was named All-Conference for the fourth time in four years. Close behind her was sophomore Danielle Riley, who came in 11th place with a time of 21:49. Riley also eanred All-CACC honors. Freshman Kristy McCrea (22:47/22ndplace), junior LJ Slaughter (23:02/26th place) and freshman Alexis Zabielski (27:42/69th place), rounded out the scorers for the ‘Cats.
Coach Keith Jones was named CACC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for his work with the squad this season.
On the men’s side, Wilmington (43 points), was second behind eventual champion Philadelphia (32). Felician (73), USP (134), Bloomfield (155), Holy Family (164), Chestnut Hill (202), Nyack (208), Goldey-Beacom (223), and Post (295) rounded out the remaining teams.
Freshman Bill Steele placed third in a time of 27:48, earning him CACC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference honors in his first year. Close behind Steele was senior Matt O’Brien (28:27/7th place), senior Chad Darlington (28:47/10th place), sophomore Rodney Rosario (28:56:28/11th place), and senior Kyle Barnum (28:56:83/12th place). Freshman Vinnie Trotta finished 14th in a time of 29:02. O’Brien, Darlington, Rosario, Barnum, and Trotta all earned All-CACC honors for their performances.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, November 8th, when they travel to participate in the NCAA Regional Championship Meet at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
11/8/2009 – NCAA Division II East Regional Meet

WILDCAT HARRIERS CLOSE OUT SEASON WITH STRONG SHOWING AT REGIONALS
BOSTON, MA -- Senior harrier Danielle Burcham led the way for the Wildcats of Wilmington University in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship Meet at Franklin Park in Boston.
Burcham finished the 6k race in a time of 23:19:10, good for 10th place. Her stellar finish earned her the second ever United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of (USTFCCCA) All-Region recognition in the history of the program at Wilmington. The first came last season, when she finished 14th at the same race.
The Lady Wildcats as a team finished 14th among 25 teams competing at the event. Rounding out the finishers for the women were sophomore Danielle Riley (25:33:3/67th place), junior LJ Slaughter (26:22:90/91st place), along with freshmen Kristy McCrea (26:24:20/93rd place) and Alexis Zabielski (31:29:40/168th place).
The men’s squad finished 7th among 26 teams, and first among all Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schools. Leading the way was freshman Bill Steele who completed the 10k course in 33:01:60, good for 26th place.
Rounding out the finishers for Wilmington were seniors Kyle Barnum (33:37:30/33rd place) and Matt O’Brian (33:59:10/45th place), sophomore Rodney Rosario (34:36:30/58th place), and senior Chad Darlington (34:44:10/64th place). Other finishers for Wilmington were freshman Vinnie Trotta (35:29:20/84th place) and junior Paul Riggio (35:33:10/86th place).
With their seventh place finish, the Wilmington men finished the season ranked 7th in the East Region, the highest ranking for any program in the CACC, and also the highest in program history.
