#2 WILMINGTON HAS SEASON END WITH 4-0 DEFEAT TO #7 NYACK NEW CASTLE, DE -- The second-seeded Wildcats of University saw their season come to a crashing halt, after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the seventh-seeded Nyack College Warriors in the quarterfinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s soccer playoffs on Monday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex. Nyack struck first, as Gavin Penny ripped a shot that deflected off Wilmington defender Mike Loaiza into the back of the net, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. That score would hold for the remainder of the first half, despite a flurry of chances from the visitors. The Warriors struck again just two minutes into the second half as keeper Adrian Ibanez let loose a long ball,that was headed into the net by Wildcat defender Justus Henry. Two and a half minutes later, it was 3-0 in favor of Nyack, when Felix Horn flicked a ball to Marco Likos, who then fired a shot from six yards out that beat Wilmington keeper Spryos Stergiotis. Nyack added one more goal during the 70th minute, when Martin Narvarez connected on a through pass from Penny, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead that would hold until the final whistle sounded. Wilmington’s Stergiotis recorded three saves and gave up three goals in his 52 minutes of action, before giving way to senior Russell Dobos, who let up one goal while not recording a save. Ibanez turned away three shots for Nyack in the victory. The Wildcats held a 14-12 edge in shots, while corner kicks were tied at six apiece. Following the game, Wilmington’s season ends with an 8-7-4 record overall. Nyack (11-5-2) advances to take on #6 Felician College, who were 2-1 upset winners over #3 Dominican College.
