RUMPLE RECORDS 2,000TH CAREER ASSIST AS WILDCATS SWEEP USCIENCES
NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University swept the Devils of the University of Sciences, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Tuesday evening at the Pratt Center.
Senior setter Shannon Rumple surpassed 2,000 career assists midway through the third set, and was awarded a game ball along with a picture commemorating the achievement.
The Wildcats sported “pink” jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month as they took the opening set 25-20. Moving on, the Lady Wildcats kept full steam ahead to win the second set 25-17. They completed the sweep of the Devils with a narrow 25-23 victory in the third and final set.
Wilmington was led by junior outside hitter Nicole Wiechecki who recorded 11 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Katie Shorter posted nine kills and four blocks, while hitting .300 on the evening. Paige Norvell, Brittany Biddle, and Brooke Foskey each added five kills, while freshman Mia Padilla led the defense with a match-high 13 digs. Rumple finished the match with 24 assists, seven digs, five blocks, and three aces as she had a solid all-around effort.
The University of the Sciences was led by Amanda DeAngelo’s 12 kills and 11 digs. Rachel Martin posted eight kills and two blocks. Stacey Wooden added four kills and 11 digs, while Diana Solomon had four kills, 16 assists, and 10 digs.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 10-4 in the CACC, and 14-7 overall. USciences dropped to 3-11 in the conference and 3-17 on the season. The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday night, when they travel to take on the Lions of Georgian Court University in a CACC contest beginning at 7 PM.
