WILMINGTON OUTLASTS CHESTNUT HILL, 3-1 IN VOLLEYBALL NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University had three players in double-digit kills, as they outlasted the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Center. Prior to the match, Wilmington honored their four seniors, Sheri Hunley, Paige Norvell, Shannon Rumple, and Kim Shropshire. Hunley, Rumple, and Shropshire are four-year players for the Wildcats, while Norvell has spent three seasons in the green and white. The Wildcats (13-5 CACC/17-8) took the first set, 27-25 in a hard fought battle. The second set required a little extra as well, and once again it was the ‘Cats on top, 28-26. Chestnut Hill rallied to take the third, by a 25-23 score. Wilmington then pulled it together and easily dismissed the Griffins in the fourth and final set, 25-15. The ‘Cats were led by junior outside hitter Nicole Wiechecki, who posted a match-high 17 kills and 17 digs, while also adding five aces and three blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Katie Shorter added 10 kills and seven blocks, while hitting a match-high .381. Classmate Brooke Foskey chipped in with 10 kills and eight digs, while fellow sophomore Brittany Biddle had seven kills and five blocks. Senior setter Shannon Rumple notched 26 assists and 11 digs, while her freshman counterpart Kasey Couch had 17 assists and six digs. Senior libero Kim Shropshire led the team defensively, recording 19 digs. Chestnut Hill (8-9 CACC/13-16) was paced by Alex DePalma’s 11 kills and 17 digs. Cassie Benson added nine kills and seven blocks, while Katie Schock also chipped in nine kills. Setter Sidney Chunkuntarod had 36 assists and 14 digs, while libero Liz DiGregorio posted a match-high 22 digs. Wilmington returns to the court on Saturday afternoon when they host a tri-match with Bloomfield College and Bowie State University. The Wildcats take on the Deacons in a CACC match beginning at noon, followed by a non-conference tilt against the Bulldogs at 4:00 PM.
