WILMINGTON VOLLEYBALL BLANKED BY SHEPHERD, 3-0
SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Wilmington University fell 3-0 to the host Rams of Shepherd University in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening at the Butcher Center. The Wildcats fell in straight sets, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-21.
Sophomore middle hitter Katie Shorter led the way for Wilmington (19-9), notching 10 kills while connecting at a .643 clip. Classmate Brittany Biddle added five kills and three blocks, while senior setter Shannon Rumple had 14 assists and eight digs. Freshman Mia Padilla led the defense with 12 digs, while senior Kim Shropshire chipped in 10.
Shepherd (16-14) was paced by Meg Kenny’s 10 kills and seven digs. Melani Lewis added seven kills, while setter Lauren Jescheinik had 23 assists and 11 digs. Taylor Belella had 10 digs while Lauren Gardner and Sarah Michael each recorded eight.
The Wildcats return to action next Tuesday evening, when they take part in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs. The quarterfinal round will take place at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined. Wilmington will be either the second or third seed in the southern division , with the opponent and site announced on Thursday evening, when the remaining CACC schedule is completed.
