Volleyball 2011 Game Highlight

WILDCATS DOWN PHILADELPHIA, 3-0 IN VOLLEYBALL NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University blanked the Rams of Philadelphia University, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Center. The Wildcats took the opening set 25-19, won set two by a score of 25-21, and completed the three set sweep with a 25-21 victory in the third and final set. Wilmington was led by junior outside hitter Nicole Wiechecki who posted 14 kills and 19 digs. Behind Wiechecki was sophomore Brooke Foskey who recorded 10 kills and hit .400 on the evening. . Sophomore middle hitter Katie Shorter had an outstanding night posting seven kills and seven blocks. Senior setter Shannon Rumple added 25 assists and eight digs. Philadelphia was led by Brittany Olson’s nine kills. Adrienne Stigura added seven digs and 17 assists. Heather Martin recorded 11 assists, while Danielle Carney posted a team-high 10 digs. The Wildcats hit .223 on the evening, led by Wiechecki’s .429 effort. Wilmington held the Rams to just a .027 hitting percentage, and the ‘Cats recorded 11 total team blocks With the win, Wilmington improved to 4-1 in the CACC, and 7-4 overall. Philadelphia dropped to 3-2 in the conference and 5-6 on the season. The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Cougars of Caldwell College in a CACC contest beginning at noon.
