FIVE WILDCATS GARNER ALL-CACC CROSS COUNTRY HONORS AS WOMEN PLACE SECOND AND MEN FINISH THIRD AT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Wilmington University had five runners earn All-Conference honors at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Cross Country Championships on Sunday morning at the Belmont Plateau.
The Lady Wildcats placed second among the 13 schools competing at the event. The team totaled 61 points, finishing behind champion Philadelphia University (21 points). Dominican College (67), Georgian Court University (121), and Nyack College (160) rounded out the top five schools.
The squad was led by sophomore Whitney Hora, who placed second out of the 83 total runners participating in the race. She finished the 5k course in a time of 19:45, just over a minute behind two-time defending champion Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia. Freshman Althea Davidson placed fifth, crossing the line in 20:17, while senior Danielle Riley was seventh, as she completed the course in 20:36. For their efforts, Hora, Davidson, and Riley each earned All-CACC honors. It was the second consecutive year that Hora earned All-Conference honors, while Riley completed the task for the third straight season. Sophomore Jeannette Halliburton (23rd place, 21:48) and senior Brittany Anthony (24th place, 21:51) rounded out the scorers for the ‘Cats.
The Wilmington men (71 points) finished third out of 11 institutions competing at the championships. Felician College (25) claimed the team title, while Philadelphia (67) came in second. Bloomfield College (139) and Holy Family University (147) rounded out the top five.
Junior Bill Steele led the charge, as he placed second among 70 runners attending. He completed the five mile race in 26:45, just ten seconds behind champion Rob Albano of Felician College. Freshman Richie Mitten was sixth, as he crossed in a time of 27:51. Steele and Mitten each earned All-Conference honors, with Steele garnering the accolades for the second consecutive season. Junior Danny Segars (18th place, 29:23), senior Austin Knight (22nd place, 29:54), and freshman Matt Mossman (23rd place, 29:59) rounded out the Wildcats’ scorers.
Wilmington is off next weekend, and will head to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the NCAA Division II East Regional Meet at Winter Park Place on November 6th.
