10/25/2011 - CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

WILMINGTON WOMEN’S PLAYOFF HOPES END WITH 3-1 LOSS TO CHESTNUT HILL NEW CASTLE, DE -- The visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College defeated the host Wildcats of Wilmington University, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex. The defeat put an end to Wilmington’s playoff hopes, and dropped their record to 3-7-1 in the CACC and 5-11-1 overall, with one game left to play. Right from the start Chestnut Hill (7-5 CACC/9-8) pressed the action with dominant play by striker Lauren Riiff. She was all the offense her team needed today as she finished the game with a hat trick. Her first goal came in the 29th minute, receiving a pass from teammate Ali Allizzo. Riiff then took on a defender and ripped a shot from inside 18 yards. Later in the half she was at it again, as she scored off a throw in pass from Lauren Nolte from about 20 yards out. She finished the hat trick in the second half as she stole the ball away from a Wilmington defender, then scored an unassisted goal from about 20 yards out. The Lady Wildcats tried to fight back and rally late in the game. Vikki Zipf found the back of the net in the 75th minute, connecting on a throw in pass from senior Liz Case. The goal put the game at 3-1 still in Chestnut Hill College’s favor. The Lady Wildcats were unable to generate any more offense, and fell victim to another loss. Wilmington returns to action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Holy Family University for a CACC match-up beginning at 4:00 PM.
