WILDCATS CLOSE OUT WOMEN’S SOCCER SEASON WITH 3-2 LOSS TO HOLY FAMILY NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University closed out the 2011 season with a 3-2 loss to the host Tigers of Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s soccer action on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field. Holy Family (7-5 CACC/10-7) struck first, as Lindsay Fisher headed in a corner kick from Madison Hudson in the 21st minute. The Wildcats tied the game at one just five minutes later as junior Penelope Fantis connected on a corner kick from freshman Victoria Vasapolli. The Tigers went back on top 30 seconds before the end of the first half, when Megan Tole scored on a breakaway, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break. Wilmington tied the game at two during the 86th minute when Fantis struck for her second goal of the afternoon, this one a breakaway. Things were even for just a shot while, as the Tigers’ Dawn Curry put the home team ahead during the 89th minute. Curry knocked home a feed from Melissa Benson to give Holy Family the one-goal victory. The Wildcats’ Brooke Eveler recorded six saves, while Gina Mansi turned away two shots for the Tigers. Holy Family out-shot Wilmington by a 19-8 margin, and also held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Following the game, Wilmington closed the books on a disappointing season, finishing with a CACC record of 3-8-1 and an overall mark of 5-12-1.
