SUBJECT: Men’s Soccer Shutout by Post, 4-0, in CACC Action

The Post University men’s soccer team proved why they were last year’s regular season champion and voted to repeat in the 2012 preseason coaches’ poll as they defeated Wilmington University, 4-0, in central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The Wildcats (2-6, 1-4 CACC) fell for the third consecutive game, but were shutout for only the second time this season. Post (4-1-2, 2-0-2 CACC) remained unbeaten in conference play, scoring three first half goals to take the momentum.

Post’s Joe Baccielo carried the Eagles, recording a hat trick with the final three goals for the Eagles, but it was the initial goal by Eltany Morais that proved to be the game-winner.

With a stale mate happening during the first 29 minutes, Morais put the Eagles up for good as he chipped Wildcat’s goalkeeper Spyros Stergiotis from in close, 29:15 into the match.

Baccielo made it 2-0 six minutes later, converting a penalty kick and added one more in the first half as he took a feed from Morais after a cross from Kevin Ipina at the 43:11 mark of the first half.

Baccielo put the game away at the 53:25 mark of the second half, capping his hat trick on a rebound off a shot from Ipina for his team leading 10th goal of the season.

The Wildcats were outshot, 12-8, for the match, but put six of their shots on frame, forcing Eagle goalkeeper Errol Reid to make all six stops for the shutout. The shots were identical in each half, as Post led, 6-4, at the halftime break, and again posted a 6-4 advantage in the second half. The Eagles also earned a 3-1 advantage in corners for the game.

Stergiotis, making his second start of the season, recorded four saves in goal for the Wildcats, while Reid recorded his third shutout of the season with six saves.

Musa Wiah and Kresimir Nurnberger led the team with two shots on goal and three shots overall apiece, while Todd Woll and Everad Maylor each tallied one shot on goal.

Wilmington will end its three-game losing streak on Tuesday, as the Wildcats return home to face West Chester in a non-conference midweek matchup at the WU Athletics Complex. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
