SUBJECT: Hot Shooting Holy Family Takes Down Wilmington, 79-64, in CACC Men’s Basketball Action

Holy Family nearly sinks half its shots, commanding the second half before settling on a 79-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Wilmington University men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

The Tigers (10-7, 6-2 CACC) had five players in double digits and opened as large as a 27 point second half lead before the Wildcats (4-13, 4-5 CACC) cut the deficit down to 15 at the end of the contest, led by Brandon Fox’s team high 15 points.

The Wildcats controlled the first half of the opening 20 minutes, starting with a James Pee three-pointer to open the scoring. Another Pee three-pointer put the visitors up four points moments later, giving the Wildcats its largest lead of the afternoon. Tied at 12-12, Isiah Mason came off the bench and hit his own three-pointer with 13:09 showing on the clock to put the Wildcats back in front.

Following the Mason three-pointer, the Tigers went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to grab the lead which turned into the final lead change of the afternoon. A layup by Rashaun Rasheed with 5:53 cut the Holy Family lead down to one point at 25-24 before the home team quickly turned the one point lead into an 11 point halftime advantage.

Andrew Corrigan hit one of two free throws to start the second half, pulling the Wildcats to within 10 at 41-31, but that would be the closest the visitors would get for the remaining of the contest. Following the Corrigan free throw, Holy Family used another 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take command of the game. The Tigers’ Angel Ayala put in a layup to give his team a 73-46 advantage, the largest lead of the game.

Fox was the lone Wildcat to reach double digits, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor, adding eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mason chipped in with nine points off the bench, shooting 3-for-8 from the floor including 1-for-1 from three-point territory. Corrigan shot 5-for-8 from the foul line to score eight points totals in 17 minutes. Shai Henry finished with a game high 10 rebounds, nine on the defensive glass.

The Wildcats shot 23-for-61 for the game, including 8-for-18 from beyond the three-point arc. On the flip side, Holy Family shot 28-for-60, hitting 10-of-24 from three-point land.

Wilmington has a week off before its back on the hard wood, remaining on the road for one more contest. The Wildcats head to Concordia on Saturday, playing the second game of a CACC doubleheader with the tip scheduled for 3 p.m.
