SUBJECT: Wilmington Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight, 3-2, in CACC South Division Showdown with Georgian Court

 In a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division showdown, the Wilmington University volleyball team defeated Georgian Court, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in the Wellness Arena to remain in first place in the division.

Set scores for the match were 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, and 15-11.

The two teams came into the day’s action with only one loss in the CACC, tied atop the CACC South Division. The Wildcats sixth consecutive win helped the team improve to 11-1 in the CACC, 16-8 overall on the 2013 season. The loss was the Lions’ second CACC loss, both to the Wildcats, and dropped them to 9-2 in the conference, and 11-10 overall.

The Wildcats were led offensively by sophomore Alex Siolos who picked up her team leading 11th double-double of the season, putting down a team high 11 kills while dishing out a team high 28 assists. Siolos was helped out by freshman Allison Briley who also collected a team high 11 kills. Fellow sophomore Kaitlin DiGiacinto added 10 terminations on 41 attempts.

The blocking tandems of the Wildcats out-dueled the Lions, 12-7, for the match, led by senior Katie Shorter. Shorter added to her CACC lead with three solo blocks and three block assists on Sunday, while Briley added a pair of solo blocks and a pair of block assists. Siolos chipped in with the final solo block for the visitors. Freshman Tia Williams helped on three block assists while Hannah McQueen and DiGiacinto added two block assists each.

Annie Scarfo held the back line down with a team high 17 digs while Shelby Henderson was the only other Wildcat in double digits with 16 digs.

The Wildcats hit .163 for the match, including .316 in the third set and .222 in the fifth and deciding frame. The Wilmington defense and 28 attack errors led the Lions to hit .188 for the match.

Wilmington continues its tough stretch of matches on Wednesday, as the Wildcats head to Philadelphia for another CACC South Division showdown. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
