SUBJECT: Wilmington Women’s Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with 2-0 Loss at Philadelphia

In the first meeting since the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship match, Philadelphia earned its revenge over Wilmington, 2-0, to close out the Wilmington regular season on Tuesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

The Wildcats (5-11-1, 5-6-1 CACC) fell for the fifth match in a row to close out the regular season, but still get a chance to defend its CACC Tournament Championship in 2013 as they clinch a spot earlier this week. Philadelphia (5-8-3, 4-5-2 CACC) can clinch a spot in the CACC Tournament with a win or a tie against Bloomsburg in their regular season finale on Thursday.

The Rams used a 22-4 shot advantage to control the pace of the game on Tuesday, outshooting the Wildcats, 10-1, in the first half and 12-3 in the second frame.

Philadelphia picked up the game-winner in the 27th minute, receiving a goal off a free-kick from 20 yards out. Taylor Mysza scored her first goal of the season with a bender around the wall and into the left side of the net, beating Wildcat goalkeeper Julia Brown.

Michaela Van Antwerp added an insurance goal for the Rams late in the second half, scoring her fourth goal of the season. Her tally came at the 85:33 mark of the second half, off a pass from Janine Cascio to make it 2-0 late in the game.

The four Wildcat shots came off the boot of Rebecca Sowers and Kaitlyn Atmore, at they recorded two shots each. One shot from each student-athlete also reached goal, making Rams’ goalkeeper Courtney Shaw record two saves for the shutout. Brown made five stops in goal for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will determine their seed and opponent after the Philadelphia contest on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats can either be the seventh or the eighth seed for the upcoming tournament .The CACC Quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday, November 5 at 2 p.m. at the site of the higher seed.
