Women's Basketball 2013 Game Highlight

SUBJECT: Second Half Run Leads Lincoln (Pa.) Past Wilmington Women’s Basketball, 72-61

A late second half run allowed the Lincoln (Pa.) women’s basketball team to defeat Wilmington University, 72-61, on Saturday afternoon inside Manuel Rivero Hall.

Trailing by one at the halftime break, the Wildcats (0-3) traded scores with Lincoln (3-1) throughout the first eight minutes of the second half, even having a lead as late as 12:21 remaining in the contest, before the Lions went on a late run to steal the contest.

Sophomore Tenicia Spence hit a three-pointer with 12:35 to play in regulation to put the Wildcats ahead 43-42, but the Lions responded with a 16-1 over the next four minutes to gain control in the contest.

The Lions led 58-44 with 8:44 to play in the game after the run, before taking as large as a 17 point lead with 2:18 remaining on the clock in the second half. Lincoln University outscored the Wildcats, 43-33, in the second half.

Spence failed to continue her 20 or more points per game average on Saturday, leading the team, however, with 15 points. Three other Wildcats also collected double digits, as junior Tashea Plummer and Theresa Mitchell added 11 points each. Plummer added a double-double with 11 rebounds while Mitchell’s 11 points came off the bench, shooting 6-of-7 from the foul line. Junior Cari Callaway also scored in double figures, scoring 10 points off the bench in 17 minutes.

The Wildcats trailed by a point at the halftime break, but a three-pointer by Spence on the Wildcats’ opening possession of the second half gave the Wildcats a two-point lead at 31-29. Another three-pointer by Tiaja Harrold gave the Wildcats their biggest lead of the game at 40-37 with 15:54 to play, moments before the Lions went on their deciding run.

Wilmington remains on the road for one more contest, starting its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Tuesday, heading to Philadelphia to take on Chestnut Hill. The CACC men’s and women’s double-header will begin with the women at 6 p.m.
