GOLF WINS WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY FALL CLASSIC
MIDDLETOWN, DE -- Freshman Paul Tighe shot a 36-hole total of 140 (68-72) to help lead the Wildcats of Wilmington University to a first place finish at their own Fall Classic.
Wilmington posted a team score of 292 in the first round on Saturday, and followed that with a 302 later in the afternoon at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, DE. The Wildcats finished first among the nine teams in the one-day, 36-hole tournament played at the Par 71, 6,608 yard course.
After Tighe’s medalist win, fellow freshman Jeff Whiteside came into the clubhouse carding a 144 (70-74) and finished second. Daniel Ott, also a freshman was eighth with a 151 (78-73). Another freshman, Nick Mafale posted a 152 (77-75 – 10th place), while classmate John Perrine rounded out the ‘Cats scorers with a 155 (73-82 – 17th place).
Senior Matt Hall (156 – 74-82; 20th place), freshman Brian Barrow (161 – 82-79; 27th place), sophomore Ian Murphy (162 – 82-80; 30th place), sophomore Sam Sachs (165 – 84-81; 35th place), Ryan Rowles (166 – 80-86; 38th place), junior Kevin Rentz (168 – 88-80; 40th place), and sophomore Dino Nardo (171 – 89-82; 46th place) were the other finishers for Wilmington.
The Wildcats return to action later this week, when they take part in the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, MD.

WILMINGTON GOLF WINS SECOND TOURNAMENT IN A ROW; OTT CLAIMS INDIVIDUAL TITLE
RISING SUN, MD -- Freshman Daniel Ott shot a 36-hole total of 140 (73-67) to help lead the Wildcats of Wilmington University to a first place finish at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Invitational.
Wilmington posted a team score of 306 in the first round on Saturday, and followed that with a 282 later in the afternoon at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, MD. The Wildcats finished first among the nine teams in the one-day, 36-hole tournament played at the Par 71, 6,600 yard course.
After Ott’s medalist win, fellow freshman Paul Tighe came into the clubhouse carding a 144 (73-71) and finished second. Senior Matt Hall finished with a 152 (80-72), while another freshman, Nick Mafale posted a 152 (80-72 – 11th place with Hall), finished the scoring for the “A” team.
The “B” team for Wilmington, would have finished second in the scoring. Leading the way was freshman Jeff Whiteside, who carded a 146 (77-69) and finished third individually. Sophomore Dino Nardo was 10th with a 151 (75-76), while the duo of sophomore Ian Murphy (76-77) and Brian Barrow (75-78) each posted totals of 153 and finished tied for 17th place.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, when they take part in the Northeast Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, CT. The inaugural tournament will be hosted by Post University.

GOLF TAKES SECOND AT POST’S NORTHEAST INTERCOLLEGIATE GOLF TOURNAMENT
WATERBURY, CT -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University posted a team score of 605 to place second in the Inaugural Northeast Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Waterbury, CT.
Wilmington shot a team score of 305 in the first round on Sunday, and followed that with a 300 on Monday. The Wildcats placed second among the 17 teams competing at the two-day event played at the Par 70, 6,711 yard course.
Freshman Daniel Ott led the charge for the ‘Cats, as he carded a 145 (76-69) and finished tied for third overall. Classmate Paul Tighe was sixth, as he shot a 149 (73-73), while fellow freshmen John Perrine (156 – 77-79; 26th place) and Jeff Whiteside (157 – 76-81; 31st place) also had strong showings. Senior Matt Hall (160 - 81-79; 39th place) rounded out the five for Wilmington.
The Wildcats return to action later this week, when they take part in the Dowling College September Shootout at Long Island National Golf Links.

WILDCATS WIN DOWLING SHOOTOUT, OTT WINS INDIVIDUAL TITLE
RIVERHEAD, NY -- Freshman Daniel Ott shot a 36-hole total of 139 (71-68) to help lead the Wildcats of Wilmington University to a first place finish at the Dowling College September Shootout.
Wilmington posted a team score of 298 in the first round on Sunday, and followed that with a 300 in the second round on Monday at the Long Island National Golf Links in Riverhead, New York. The ‘Cats finished first among the 15 teams in the two-day, 36-hole tournament played at the par 71, 6,945 yard course.
After Ott’s medalist win, fellow freshman Paul Tighe came into the clubhouse carding a 152 (74-78) and finished tied for eighth. Freshmen John Perrine (154 – 76-78, 19th place), Jeff Whiteside (155 – 77-78, 23rd place), and senior Matt Hall (157 – 81-76, 34th place) rounded out the finishers for Wilmington.
The Wildcats return to action next weekend, when they take part in the Scotty Duncan Memorial Classic at White Clay Creek Country Club in Stanton, Delaware.

WILDCATS FINISH FOURTH AT UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE’S SCOTTY DUNCAN MEMORIAL CLASSIC
STANTON, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University posted a team score of 635 to place fourth in the Scotty Duncan Memorial Classic, hosted by the University of Delaware, at White Clay Creek Country Club in Stanton, Delaware.
Wilmington shot a team score of 329 in the first round on Sunday, and followed that with a 306 on Monday. The Wildcats placed fourth among the 13 teams competing at the two-day event played at the Par 72, 6,861 yard course.
Freshman Daniel Ott led the charge for the ‘Cats, as he carded a 157 (80-77) and finished tied for fifteenth overall. Classmate Paul Tighe was seventeenth, as he shot a 158 (83-75), while fellow freshman Jeff Whiteside (160 – 84-76; 25th place) senior Matt Hall (161 – 83-78; 31st place) also had strong showings. Freshman Jonn Perrine (166 - 83-83; 51st place) rounded out the five for Wilmington.
On the individual side, Brian Barrow had his best showing of the year, as he posted a 158 (84-74) and tied for seventeenth place.
The Wildcats return to action later this week, when they take part in the Dominican College Charger Challenge at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, New York.

WILMINGTON WINS DOMINICAN COLLEGE CHARGER CHALLENGE, OTT CLAIMS INDIVIDUAL TITLE
SUFFERN, NY -- Freshman Daniel Ott shot a 36-hole total of 144 (72-72) to help lead the Wildcats of Wilmington University to a first place finish at the Dominican College Charger Challenge.
Wilmington posted a team score of 307 in the first round on Sunday, and followed that with a 296 in the second round on Monday at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, New York. The ‘Cats finished first among the 10 teams in the two-day, 36-hole tournament played at the par 72, 6,894 yard course. Wilmington finished just two strokes ahead of runner-up Adelphi University.
After Ott’s medalist win, fellow freshman Paul Tighe came into the clubhouse carding a 147 (75-72) and finished in third place. Freshman Brian Barrow (155 – 81-74, 10th place), senior Matt Hall (158 – 80-78, 17th place), and freshman Jeff Whiteside (163 – 80-83, 25th place) rounded out the finishers for Wilmington.
On the individual side, freshman John Perrine posted a 152 (75-77) and finished in eighth place.

'CATS CLOSE OUT FALL SEASON WITH 2ND AND 3RD PLACE SHOWINGS AT ANDREW GEYER MEMORIAL CLASSIC
WYOMING, DE -- The University of Delaware had four of the top five finishers on its way to the team title at the Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic, hosted by Wesley College at Wild Quail Golf Course.
The Blue Hens Kevin McLister shot a seven under 137 (68-69) to win the individual title by five strokes. His teammate Greg Matthias turned in matching 71s to finish two under on the par 72, 6,794 yard course.
Delaware's Justin Martinson (75-72) and Stephen Scialo (73-74) tied for third at 147, along with Michael Coppa (76-71) of Goldey-Beacom.
Jerry Temple of Delaware and Wilmington's Jeff Whiteside both shot a pair of 74s to tie each other for sixth place.
The Blue Hens' Mike Barrow (76-73) was eighth, followed by Wilmington's Dino Nardo (76-74) at 150. Wesley's Chris Osberg (78-73), Goldey-Beacom's Wesley Hood (78-73) and Daniel Ott (77-74) rounded out the top 10 tied at 151.
Delaware won the team title by 30 strokes with rounds of 287 and 285 for a 36-hole 572. Wilmington's B team finished second, right ahead of the Wildcats' A squad. The B team shot 602 (304-298), five shots ahead of the A team (314-293).
One shot behind the Wilmington A squad was Goldey-Beacom after rounds of 312 and 296.
Wesley's A and B teams rounded out the field. The A team rebounded from a 315 first round for a second 18 of 306. The B team shot an impressive 313 in the first round, but fell to 327 in the second round.
The Wolverines placed two other golfers from the A team in the top 20, along with one B teamer. Bobby Ehrhardt shot 77 and 77 to finish at 154 in 17th place. Rob Zimmerer was three shots back in a tie for 19th (80-77). Tied with Zimmerer was Clayton Bunting of the B team with rounds of 77 and 80.
The tournament is named in honor of former Wolverine student-athlete Andrew Geyer, who passed away in February 2009 at the age of 22 during his senior year at Wesley.
