Golf Places 19th at NCAA National Tournament

The Wilmington University golf team placed 19th out of 20 teams at the NCAA National Tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals. It was the Wildcats first ever trip to the National Tournament, and also the just the second ever appearance for a team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
Wilmington shot a three-day total of 947 to finish 83 strokes over par. The ‘Cats opened the event with a 324 and followed it with a 315 on day two. They closed out stroke play with a 308 in their final round, their best of the tournament. The top eight teams qualified for match play, and though the Wildcats fell short, they finished second out of the three East Region teams competing.
Sophomore Dan Ott led the way for the ‘Cats, tying for 63rd place after carding a three-round total of 231 (84-75-72). Classmate John Perrine tied for 74th place, shooting a 234 (80-76-78), while freshman Andrew Baldo tied for 87th after shooting a 239 (82-83-81). The sophomore duo of Paul Tighe and Nick Mafale rounded out the Wildcats. Tighe tied for 100th after carding a 246 (82-83-84), while Mafale was 108th with a 256 (86-81-89).
