#1 Bridgeport 7, Wilmington 0

Thursday, October 20, 2011 - New Castle, DE

The top-ranked Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport showed why they are the number one team in the nation, as they easily disposed of the Wilmington University Wildcats, 7-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action on Thursday afternoon at Knights Field.

The hosts ran up a quick 3-0 lead after just 22 minutes of play, and continued to add on two more before the end of the first half.  Wilmington (5-10) tightened up the defense in the second half, but Bridgeport (13-0) was still able to score twice and cruised to the 7-0 victory.

Asia Pulse netted a hat trick, while Giuana Prugger, Tessa Dunster, Katie Stanley, and Julia Colley each added single goals.  Juila Hansson recorded five saves in goal for the Purple Knights.

Wilmington’s Brooke Eveler notched three saves in goal before being replaced by Amanda Walters (four saves) to start the second half.  The Wildcats were out-shot by a 24-10 margin, but managed to close the gap to 9-7 in the second period.  The Purple Knights held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to the Cougars of Caldwell College in a CACC contest beginning at noon.
