The Wilmington University Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) sponsored its annual Team Basket Silent Auction during the men’s and women’s basketball games on Saturday, raising nearly $1,000 to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation .

Each of the 11 athletic teams sponsored by Wilmington creatively came up with a personal theme and put those thoughts into a basket to put up for auction during the basketball doubleheader against Post last Saturday.

In addition, SAAC president Paul Riggio and the executive committee collected donations and handed out Make-A-Wish Foundation stars throughout the afternoon.

In all, the Wildcat family raised $925 on the Silent Auction and $50 while selling stars, all of which will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The foundation’s website states that since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 250,000 children around the world.

The baskets were auctioned off prior to the women’s game and ran through the end of the men’s halftime. Winners were announced during the second half of the men’s basketball game that day.

SAAC, Wilmington University and the men’s and women’s basketball teams would like to thank all those who came out to help support the Make-A-Wish Foundation and cheer on the Wildcats in their final home game of the season.
