In his first start as a Wilmington University baseball team member Dave Hatt earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week award, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The junior right-handed pitcher led the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory in game two of the three-game set against Merrimack College to kick of the 2012 campaign at Wilson Field. Hatt threw eight scoreless innings, while allowing one hit and striking out three batters.

Hatt gave up a two-out double in the first inning, but did not allow another baserunner until he hit a batter to lead off the top of the eighth. He faced one batter over the minimum during his eight innings of work, as he wheeled and picked off the batter at second to end the top half of the first inning.

Needed only 91 pitched to get through eight innings, Hatt recorded four outs on the first pitch of the at-bat and another five outs on the batters second pitch of an at-bat. The double he gave up was also on the first pitch of an at-bat, before picking him off without throwing a pitch to the next batter. He also recorded three outs on the third pitch of an at-bat.

Hatt (Toronto, Canada) is in his first season with the Wildcats after transferring from Burlington Community College earlier this year.

He is joined by Bloomfield’s Emilio Ferandez (CACC Player of the Week) and Felician’s Chet Godfrey (CACC Rookie of the Week) on the conference’s weekly Honor Roll.

Center fielder and reliever Joe Harbach was named to the CACC Honorable Mention list this week, as he posted an average of .455 (5-for-11) while leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 week. He belted a solo shot over the fence in right to cap the 3-1 victory in the third and final game of the series on Sunday, finishing the weekend with two RBI’s. He also pitched the ninth inning of game-three, picking up the save while striking out two batters.
