While the Wilmington University women’s lacrosse team was in the midst of defeating Holy Family on Tuesday afternoon, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced last week’s weekly award winners and Kory Webster was named to the CACC Honorable Mention list after helping the Wildcats to a 2-1 record.
Webster, a senior from Abingdon, Md., tallied eight goals and two assists for 10 points as the Wildcats defeated Bridgeport and Post but fell to Millersville last week.
The week started with the home contest against Millersville, as Webster scored two goals and added an assist in the back and forth contest. She also converted on her only free position shot, picked up one ground ball, controlled one draw and forced a turnover in the 17-15 loss to the Marauders.
The Wildcats then traveled to New England for a pair of games and all Webster did was come back with a pair of hat tricks. On Friday against Bridgeport Webster secured her first hat trick of the season by bookending the second half with goals, putting the stamp on a 12-3 victory.
Wilmington showed no rest for the weary the following day, as the Wildcats traveled to Post to open their CACC schedule. Webster was a part of a 15-goal second half comeback as five different players recorded hat tricks for the Wildcats in the 20-13 victory. Webster scored twice in the second frame, once to bring the Wildcats to within a goal at 9-8, and again to pull ahead 12-10 with 16:43 to play to secure the win.
On the season, the Bel Air High School product has 10 goals and two assists and is third on the team with 12 points. Webster has converted on two of four 8-meter opportunities, picked up six ground balls, controlled four draws and has caused three turnovers. Eighteen of her 21 shots have been on goal so far this year.
Wilmington heads to Georgian Court this Saturday in another tough CACC contest. After claiming their second consecutive CACC Tournament championship, the Lions were picked to finish second in this year’s preseason coaches’ poll. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
