Wilmington Golfers Hold on to Second Place, Tighe Fourth Overall at North Alabama Spring Classic

Junior PJ Tighe finished 4th overall at the North Alabama Spring Classic
The Wilmington University golf team completed its second tournament of the spring on Tuesday and closed out the North Alabama Spring Classic with a 298 to finish in sole possession of second place on the Robert Trent Jones Fighting Joe Golf Trail at the Shoals in northwest Alabama.
The Wildcats were again led by junior PJ Tighe on the third round of competition, as he shot a team best 72 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for fourth overall. He finished the two-day, three-round tournament with 75-71-72 scores and a 218 total. He was tied with Thomas Mitchell of Huntingdon College in fourth, shooting two over par for the tournament.
Dan Ott played steady all three rounds of the tournament, finishing Tuesday with another round of two over par 74, finishing in a tie for 17th. He shot the same score during all three rounds. Scott Davidson finished in a tie for 27th with a three round score of 225 while John Perrine came in a tie for 31st with a two-day score of 226. Andrew Baldo rounded out the Wildcats by placing in a tie for 37th with a 75-77-75 three round score.
Wilmington led the field of 17 teams with the best tournament score on all Par 5 holes, coming in with a 4.95 average and collected a three-under par score for the tournament. They also collected the second most pars during the three rounds, finishing with 172.
Individually, Davidson finished fourth overall on par three holes, going into the books with a +1 score at the end of the tournament. He finished with a 3.08 average on all the par-3 holes. Baldo picked up the third most pars (38) for the tournament. Tighe led the Wildcats by finishing +1 on par-4’s, and -3 on par-5’s. He amassed 10 birdies throughout the three rounds.
Host North Alabama ran away with the team and individual trophies, capping a three round score of 859, beating Wilmington and the field by 26 strokes. Ricky Stimets shot a 67-70-68 for an -11 total. The next closest competitor was Central Missouri’s Joe Migdal who finished at two under par.
The Wildcats are back in action this Sunday, as they travel to Miami Beach, Fla. for a three-day tournament hosted by Barry University. The Barry University Buccaneer Invitational will be played at the Normandy Shores Golf Club from Sunday to Tuesday.
