Junior Katie Warrington earned her second straight CACC Pitcher of the Week award on Monday
After being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for throwing a five-inning, four hit shutout with nine strikeouts on March 20 against Goldey-Beacom, in most cases it would be tough to outperform yourself to earn the weekly award again.
That is exactly what Katie Warrington did for the Wilmington University softball team, as she tossed a seven-inning complete shutout, including 11 strikeouts this time. Oh, and she did not allow a single hit in throwing her first collegiate no-hitter in the team’s 2-0 win against Holy Family on March 27 in the team’s home opener. For the no-hitter, she was the repeat award winner for the CACC Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.
The Wildcats are on an eight-game winning streak and have the potential to win every game Warrington steps into the circle for. She leads the CACC in strikeouts by averaging 8.47 strikeouts per seven innings overall, but raises that average to 11.67 strikeouts per seven innings in two CACC starts. The junior is also first in saves with two.
The Townsend, Del. native carries a 1.08 overall earned run average and has yet to give up a run in CACC play. She is second in the conference in overall ERA. Warrington allows hitters to bat .221 off of her, and a mere .098 in CACC play against Goldey-Beacom and Holy Family.
The junior has won each of her last three starts and is now 6-6 on the season. Warrington has accumulated 94 strikeouts so far this season while only allowing 15 walks and 12 earned runs in 77.2 innings.
This is the fifth time Warrington has been named CACC Pitcher of the Week, after winning the weekly honor last week and three times in a row during the month of March last season.
Warrington shares the weekly honors with Dominican’s Delaney Childers who picked up the CACC Player of the Week and Aimee Lopez who earned the CACC Rookie of the Week. Rachel Rush (Georgian Court), Bianca Robinson (Holy Family), Victoria Reuscher (Holy Family), and Dara Schroeder (Georgian Court) were all named to the CACC Honorable Mention list for their efforts during last week’s play.
Wilmington has a busy week of games as this past weekend was washed away due to the rain. The Wildcats (12-15, 4-0 CACC) will take their eight-game winning streak into Tuesday’s home doubleheader against Concordia before making up a doubleheader at home against Felician on Wednesday. The team will then head to Philadelphia on Thursday before rounding out the week by hosting Bloomfield on Saturday.
