With the 3-0 win over Philadelphia University on March 22, the Wilmington University baseball team advanced to the Bill Giles Invitational Championship game on Tuesday, April 17 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The date is a set date announced by the Philadelphia Phillies management, meaning the regularly scheduled contest against Shippensburg will be moved to Wednesday, April 18. The Wildcats were scheduled to play Shippensburg on Tuesday and West Chester on Wednesday, but will now flip-flop the dates to accommodate the Bill Giles Invitational Championship.
Wilmington will be the visitors against West Chester on Tuesday at the Philadelphia Phillies home ball bark, playing against the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association No. 5 ranked team in the latest weekly poll.
Fans are encouraged to attend the game starting at 3:30 p.m., entering in the First Base Gate of Citizens Bank Park. Admission is $5 dollars for all fans with seating available behind each dugout and home plate in the lower level of the stadium.
The Wildcats will then travel to Shippensburg on Wednesday, April 18 for a 3:00 p.m. start against another PSAC East opponent.
Wilmington dropped the first meeting this season against West Chester, 13-5, in West Chester, and lost an 8-2 decision at home to Shippensburg.
Tuesday will be the fifth time in tournament history Wilmington and West Chester will square off in the finals of the Bill Giles Invitational. The Rams defeated the Wildcats last season to win their fourth straight Bill Giles Invitational. Wilmington will be looking for its second championship in the 12 year history of the tournament, winning the 2007 championship.
