Leading her team to a perfect 5-0 week, Wilmington University volleyball freshman Alex Siolos picked up her first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly honor as she was named CACC’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 9, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Wilmington started the week by defeating reigning CACC South Division champion and 2012 favorite Holy Family, 3-1, on September 5 and then steamrolled through its own Wildcat Invitational by winning all four matches while only dropping one set this past weekend. The Wildcats are now 8-2 overall, 1-0 in the CACC.

Siolos, a native of East Moriches, N.Y., was one of the main catalysts for the offense surge from the Wildcats during the week, as led the team with 106 assists, nice service aces, and a .318 attack percentage. She was also second on the team with 15 blocks, and third on the team with 85 kills and 51 points for the week.

The freshman’s week started with her first CACC contest on her collegiate career against Holy Family, and she picked up one of three double-doubles on the week with a career best 26 assists and 13 digs. Siolos followed that match up with career attack numbers, as she hit .444 with nine kills on 18 attempts against Pace in the opening game of the Wildcat Invitational. Another double-double followed against Saint Rose as she dished out 17 assists and picked up 10 digs. She again hit over .400 against Bentley, finishing with eight kills and one error on 16 swings for a .438 percentage, adding 24 assists.

Siolos came within one kill of reaching the triple-double plateau, a feat only accomplished once by a Wildcat, in the final match of the Wildcat Invitational against Davis & Elkins. She collected 19 assists and 10 digs, and finished with nine kills and one error on 19 swings for a .421 attack percentage. Angie Estep is the only other Wildcat to accomplish a triple-double, as she performed the task on October 1, 2005 against NJIT with 10 kills, 37 assists and 21 digs.

Philadelphia’s Ellie Edgar was named the CACC Volleyball Player of the Week as the senior hit .578 over three matches last week. Edgar hit .900 with nine kills on 10 swings with no errors in a loss to Southern Connecticut.

Earning CACC Volleyball Honorable Mention this week was Goldey-Beacom’s Kadi McCoy, Georgian Court’s Anabelle Barinas and Dominican’s Whitney Ranger.

The Wildcats return to action tonight, Tuesday, September 11, 2012, as they welcome Chestnut Hill to the new Wilmington University Athletics Complex for a CACC matchup at 7 p.m.
