While preparing to defend its Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) College Cheerleading Small Coed Division II National Championship, the Wilmington University cheerleading squad has taken another step forward, qualifying three partner stunt groups to compete at the UCA Partner Stunt National Championships, all taking part in Orlando on January 18-20.

In addition to the team competition, the Wildcats will also compete at the national stage with three stunt groups, as two pairs qualified for the Coed Partner Stunt and one quartet of females were invited to compete in the All-Girl Partner Stunt.

To qualify, each group put together a one minute, unedited videotape of their routine and skills to the UCA committee to be judged. The tandems were then scored on execution, difficulty and overall performance and ranked by point total.

Competing against other qualifiers from such programs as the University of Memphis, Oklahoma State University, Texas Tech University, and the University Kansas, sophomore David Bellew and freshman Ariel Ellixson were ranked 14th of 38 duos to earn in invite to the National Championship. Graduate student Brad Gilbert teamed up with freshman Natalie Spiker to be ranked 19th, also earning an invite. UCA took 20 of the 38 pairs who auditioned.

Also competing against some of the top colleges and universities, the quartet of Amanda Endicott, Alexis Hazel, Gabby Mattera and Mary Alexander were ranked 13th out of 27 groups to earn an invite in the All-Girl Stunt Group competition. UCA took 14 of the 27 group who sent in an audition.

The 2013 Championship will be held January 18 - 20 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. For more information on the 2013 National Championships, please visit its website at http://www.uca.varsity.com/college_nationals.aspx.
