Looking to three-peat the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Wilmington University baseball team has set up a tough nonconference schedule in order to prepare for the postseason, as the Wildcats unveil their 2013 schedule.

Ninth year head coach Brian August set out to prepare his team for the postseason once again, as the Wildcats will play 16 out of its 48 games against teams that were voted to the 2013 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll, or received votes. The Wildcats will also compete against two NCAA Division I programs throughout the season. Wilmington received one vote in the preseason poll.

The 2013 Wildcats will make their debut on February 23 with a doubleheader at St. Thomas Aquinas. After a three game series with the Spartans, the Wildcats will make their home debut on Tuesday, February 26 against the NCAA Division II defending National Champion West Chester squad, who is also ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll.

The first shot to catch the Wildcats on the weekend at newly named Wilson Field at Jim Sherman Sr. Stadium comes on March 1-3 as Wilmington will host preseason ranked No. 9 Franklin Pierce and Indiana (Pa.) in a three team play weekend. The Wildcats will get two cracks each at Franklin Pierce and IUP over the course of the weekend.

Following the play weekend, the Wildcats make their annual trip south to Florida, where they will square off against four teams that were mentioned on the preseason poll. The trip starts with No. 18 Southern New Hampshire, who ended the Wildcats’ season last year in the NCAA East Regional Tournament, on March. 4. Throughout the course of the week, the Wildcats will also face No. 19 Nova Southeastern, No. 28 Lynn, and Barry who received votes. The Wildcats will also play two against the College of Saint Rose and Molloy, while also facing UMass-Lowell.

Once the team returns to the state of Delaware after its Spring Break, Wilmington will get into its conference schedule where they will play, Bloomfield, Felician, Concordia, Nyack, Caldwell and Philadelphia at home throughout the course of the year. The first conference contest at Wilson Field is against Bloomfield on Saturday, March 23.

The Wildcats will also square off against CACC foes Dominican (at Provident Bank Park, home of the Rockland Boulders), USciences, Post, Chestnut Hill, and Philadelphia on the road. Dominican received one vote in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll.

Other nonconference contests for the Wildcats in 2013 include a pair of NCAA Division I programs, University of Delaware and University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Wilmington will make its annual trip to Newark for its in-state battle on March 19 before hosting UMES on April 4.

The Wildcats square off against West Chester a total of three times in 2013 while also facing PSAC foes Millersville (twice), Shippensburg (twice) and Kutztown as all three received votes in the preseason poll.

The first round of the annual Bill Giles Invitational will take place on April 10 as the Wildcats will travel to West Chester with the winner heading to the final held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Wilmington will once again host the CACC Tournament, with the final two days being held at Frawley Stadium, home of the Blue Rocks, on May 10-11.
