First year head coach Lauren Rizzo and the Wilmington University softball team is proud to announce the early signings of three outstanding high school seniors who will compete for the Wildcats starting with the fall season of 2013.
Prior to even starting her first year as the head coach of the Wildcats, Rizzo has been hard at work in recruiting these three individual student-athletes from three different states. Rizzo and the Wildcats will welcome Brooke Lachette, Shannon McMahon, and Colby Wyatt to the team next season.
Lachette is a pitcher and first baseman from Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, Pa. The 5-11 senior will not only big a big addition to the Wildcat pitching staff and will also look to make an immediate impact both on the rubber and at the plate. Lachette also competes for the Delco Rage, a travel team based out of Delaware County.
McMahon is a pitcher from South Plainfield high school in South Plainfield, N.J. According to Rizzo, she possesses a very strong work ethic and will add needed depth and strengthen the pitching rotation.
Wyatt is a pitcher and corner infielder from Lake Forest High School in Felton, Delaware. Wyatt will be looked up as a much needed utility player, filling in at many positions, whether in the circle or on the corners of the infield.
“I am very excited and eager to have these three student-athletes join our school and softball program,” Rizzo said. “They are all hardworking individuals who will make an immediate impact and I look forward to seeing them on the field next season.”
Before getting to play with the three early signees, the Wildcats will look to improve upon their fourth seed from the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and their 26-25 overall record from last year when they begin the 2013 season on Monday, February 25 down in Clermont, Fla.
