The spring season opening weekend seems to always come with a hitch and the first games of the Wilmington University baseball season proves that theory to be true.
Due to the cold weather the northeast has had over the past few weeks, the baseball schedule has been reorganized to accommodate the chilling temperatures.
The three-game series against St. Thomas Aquinas which was supposed to be played at Mercy College on Saturday and Sunday will now be played at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J., on Friday and Sunday afternoon.
The Diamond Nation complex consists of five 90 foot turf fields which are capable of having games played when grass fields are still frozen, or too wet, avoiding postponements.
Friday’s season opener will start at 3:00 p.m. while Sunday’s doubleheader will start at 12:00 p.m. Sunday will feature a full nine inning game, followed by a seven inning contest.
Wilmington was ranked fourth in the NCBWA East Region Preseason Poll while St. Thomas Aquinas was voted seventh.
