Wilmington University’s spring sport teams continue to excel on the playing field as baseball’s Dave Hatt and golf’s Andreas Lunding were named on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report for their respective sports for the week ending March 17, released by the conference office on Monday.
Hatt, a senior right-handed pitcher, earned his first CACC Pitcher of the Week award of 2013 in giving the Wildcats (13-8, 1-1 CACC) their first conference victory of the 2013 season. He helped the team to a 13-0 win in game two against CACC rival Dominican on Friday. Hatt tossed eight scoreless innings in his only appearance of the week, striking out four Chargers in improving to 2-0 on the season. He allowed six hits in throwing 102 pitches, only walking one batter in the team’s longest outing of the season so far.
The Campbellville, Ontario native now leads the team in throwing 26.2 innings on the season, striking out 14 batters while only allowing batters to hit .242 off him in five starts. Hatt is carrying a 2.03 earned run average, first on the team among starters with three or more starts.
Lunding, a freshman, was named the CACC Player and Rookie of the Week for his play at the Bayside Invitational. He competed in his second tournament of the 2013 spring season, picking up his first career medalist honors of his young career. He led the Wildcats to its second round comeback at the Dowling College Bayside Resort College Invitational on Sunday. Lunding shot a tournament best 70 on Saturday and came back to shoot a 74 on Sunday, finishing as the only player to record an even-par 144 for the tournament. He finished three strokes ahead of the competition.
It is the first medalist honors for the Horsholm, Denmark native, after previously finishing with a tournament best tied for 14th at the Flagler Collegiate Jennison Memorial in his first college tournament in the fall. He finished tied for 55th at the 64th SoCal Intercollegiate Championship in Mission Viejo, Calif., last week in his only other start this spring.
Softball’s Christin Headley was also named in the weekly reporting, earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after hitting .750 last week in the team’s only doubleheader. She recorded five RBI’s and four runs scored with a triple, sweeping Bowie State.
