Closing out the 2013 regular season, junior Josh Hampton led the Wilmington University baseball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Title, being named the CACC Co-Player of the Week in the final Weekly Report released by the conference office on Monday.

The Wildcats extended their winning streak to 10 games, going 2-0 this past week in preparation for the CACC Tournament. They first beat Bridgeport, 6-1, last Monday before wrapping up the conference crown and the No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Hampton (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) led the Wildcats by going 5-for-9 on the week, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance on Monday at Bridgeport. He smashed two doubles and a home run, while reaching bases all five times by also getting hit by a pitch. He knocked in two runs while scoring two more in the week, slugging at a 1.111 clip for the week and getting on base 60 percent of the time.

For the year, Hampton leads the CACC in hits (70), doubles (24), RBI’s (43), and total bases (114), while being second in slugging (.567), third in triples (4) and home runs (4), and fourth in average (.348). His 24 doubles are the most by a Wildcat in a single season in program history.

It is the second time this season Hampton has earned top billings in the CACC, as he was also named the CACC Player of the Week on March 5.

Hampton earned Co-Player of the Week with Felician’s Aaron Brill who went 10-for-15 in four games last week. He hit a double and a triple, slugged .867 and added a walk for a .688 on-base percentage. Brill also scored six runs and drove in four while stealing two bases.

Concordia’s Anthony Pisano was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game shutout against Caldwell and Dominican’s Kenny Harrell picked up the CACC Rookie of the Week award after hitting .352 in six games with four runs and five RBI’s.

The CACC Tournament begins on Tuesday with No. 6 Chestnut Hill heading to No. 3 Concordia and No. 5 Felician going to No. 4 Philadelphia in the first round. Wilmington will play the winner between Felician and Philadelphia at noon on Thursday at Wilson Field to begin the double-elimination portion of the championship.
