Wilmington University is pleased to announce that five Wildcats were awarded inaugural Women’s Lacrosse All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) honors for their performances this past season.
Kelsey LaPlume (Mercy HS/Bel Air, MD) and Danielle Niccoli (Kenwood HS/Sparrow’s Point, MD) were each named First Team All-CACC. LaPlume, a senior defender, anchored a defense that ranked 30th in the country in caused turnovers per game. Niccoli, a sophomore midfielder, led the team in goals (49). She led the conference in draw controls per game (4.12), ranked 6th in the CACC in goals per game (2.88), and 8th in points per game (3.53).
Catie Joynes (Bel Air HS/Bel Air, MD) and Kelly Wojciechowski (Our Lady of Mount Carmel HS/Baltimore, MD) each garnered second team All-Conference honors. Joynes, a senior defender helped the Wildcats to a ranking of #33 in scoring defense in Division II. Wojciechowski, a senior attack, led the team in points per game (4.0), and was second in goals (48) and assists per game (1.18). She also ranked 22nd in the country in points per game.
Freshman midfielder Kory Webster (Bel Air HS/Abingdon, MD) earned honorable mention All-Conference honors. Webster netted 21 goals this season, and was second on the team in draw controls (47).
These five Wildcats were the first in program history to earn All-CACC honors, as 2009 is the first season that women’s lacrosse is a conference sponsored sport. Wilmington finished the regular season with a 4-6 record in the CACC and an overall mark of 7-10.
