Following an outstanding freshman campaign, Wilmington University golfer Andreas Lunding has been named Division II PING All-East Region, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

As a first year student-athlete, Lunding (Horsholm, Denmark) came into Wilmington and immediately competed for the top spot in tournaments. He came on strong at the end of the spring season, earning back-to-back tournament championships at the Bayside Resort Invitational and the WU Spring Invite.

Including the fall season, Lunding competed in nine tournaments in his freshman season before a lower leg injury caused him to miss the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional and NCAA Division II National Championship Tournaments.

In 24 rounds this season, Lunding averaged 75.75 strokes per 18 holes, finishing with a 320 national rating, according to Golfstat.com. He compiled a 4.08 average score above par for his 24 rounds, shooting a personal best 69 in the first round of the WU Spring Invite.

Lunding won his first tournament at the Bayside Resort Invitational hosted by Dowling College in the spring. He opened with a 70 in the first round before responding with a second round 74 to finish even par, three strokes ahead of the field. Lunding came back the following week and captured the WU Spring Invite at Back Creek Golf Club by shooting a 69 first round score and finishing with a 74 in the second round, again beating the field by three strokes.

The freshman earned his second best finish during the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club, placing fourth overall and being the top freshman finisher. He was the third Wildcat to finish in the top four spots overall. He shot a 76-77 to finish with a 153, three strokes off the lead. For his effort, he was named to the CACC All-Tournament Team.

Lunding was named the CACC Rookie of the Year after being ranked 332 in Golfstat, the top rookie ranking for the conference. He was also one of nine student-athletes named All-CACC at the banquet prior to the CACC Tournament. Lunding was also a two-time CACC Golfer of the Week in 2013, earning the honor on March 18 and again on April 1.

Lunding helped the Wildcats to their third straight CACC Tournament Championship, as well as helping the team advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Region where they placed second overall. The Wildcats moved on to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the third year in a row, placing a team best 15th this season held at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
