Wilmington Volleyball’s Shelby Henderson Named CACC’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore libero and defensive specialist Shelby Henderson was named one of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference’s Co-Defensive Players of the Week in the conference’s first week of reports on Monday, September 9, leading a band of Wildcats around the fall sports in action.

Henderson, a sophomore from Wilmington, Del., anchored the back row for the volleyball team as they opened its season at the Charger Invitational, hosted by New Haven, in West Haven, Conn.

The sophomore posted 52 digs in 11 sets at the Charger Invitational, averaging a team high 4.73 digs per set in three matches. Henderson collected a weekend’s high 21 digs against Stonehill and added 16 against New Haven on Friday night. She concluded her weekend with 15 digs against LIU Post on Saturday afternoon. Henderson also added two assists and a service ace throughout the tournament.

Henderson shared the Co-Defensive Player of the Week award with Chestnut Hill’s Regina Trabosh while Dominican’s McKenzie John was named the Player and Rookie of the Week for September 9.

Wildcat classmate Alex Siolos was named to the Weekly Honor roll for volleyball after posting the program’s second ever triple-double in the loss against LIU Post, tallying 10 kills, 22 assists, and 15 digs.

For men’s soccer, junior transfer Elton Joe was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after starting his Wilmington career with the game-winning goal in the 107th minute against Franklin Pierce. He also added an assist on the team’s first goal of the season.

After dominating the 13th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country, Tyler Muse was named to the Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll as well after beating the field in the 8K race with a time of 28:37.77.

The CACC produces a weekly report for each sport with a male and female athlete, rookie, and defensive (where applicable) players of the week every Monday until the respected sports’ conference tournament.
