Wilmington Volleyball Rebounds to take Final Three Sets in 3-1 CACC Victory at USciences

After a dismal first set, the Wilmington University volleyball team bounced back to defeat University of the Sciences, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday night on the road in Bobby Morgan Arena.
Set scores for the match were 11-25, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-22.
The win moves Wilmington (8-7, 3-0 CACC) above .500 overall for the first time in 2013 while also staying unbeaten in conference play. The loss snaps a two-match winning streak for the Devils (4-10, 0-2 CACC) as they also won three of four match coming into tonight’s contest.
The Wildcats were able to bounce back after collecting only four kills and hitting .032 in the first set to hit a combined .230 in the following three sets to earn the comeback. The comeback started with their best set of the night, knocking down 14 kills with only three errors on 40 attempts for a .275 attack percentage.
Sophomore Alex Siolos was two kills away from collecting her second triple-double of the season, finishing with eight kills, 24 assists and 12 digs against the Devils. Classmate Kaitlin DiGiacinto led the team with 12 kills on Wednesday night. Freshman Allison Briley was the only other Wildcat to reach double digit kills with 11.
Wilmington held the advantage at the net as well on Wednesday, out-blocking the Devils, 8-3, in the match. Freshman Tia Williams collected the only solo block for the Wildcats, but seven total student-athletes were able to help deny an attack with at least one block assist. Williams, Siolos, and Brittany Biddle led the team with three block assists each against USciences, while Katie Shorter added two block assists. DiGiacinto, Briley, and Hannah McQueen each had a hand on one block assist as well.
Sophomore Shelby Henderson led the Wildcats in the back with 15 digs, bringing her team high average per set to 3.55 so far in the season.
The Devils’ Amanda DeAngelo led all attackers with 19 kills on 32 attempts with only six errors, hitting .310 for the match. She also collected 15 digs to earn the double-double. Kaileen Bevenour dished out a match high 45 assists for the Devils.
A winner in four of their last five matches overall, the Wildcats return to action on Saturday to kick off the 2013 Wilmington University Homecoming festivities. They will welcome Felician to the WU Athletics Complex for an 11 a.m. first serve on Saturday.
