CACC Basketball Preseason Polls Released with Wilmington’s Men Voted Sixth and Women Seventh in South Division

In a vote of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference basketball head coaches, the 2013-2014 CACC Basketball Preseason Polls were announced on Monday, with the Wilmington University men’s program listed to finish sixth and the women’s program listed to finish seventh in the CACC South Division.
On the men’s side, the two teams that met in the 2013 CACC Tournament Championship were voted on as favorites in the regular season in their respective divisions, as Bloomfield earned 13 first place votes and 97 points to capture the North Division and Philadelphia earned eight first place votes and 92 points to capture the South Division.
Post picked up 74 points for second in the North while the defending CACC North Division Regular Season Champions, Dominican, picked up the final first place vote and 62 points for third. Caldwell (49 points), Concordia (40), Nyack and Felician (35 each) round out the North Division preseason poll.
Following Philadelphia in the South Division is the defending CACC South Division Regular Season Champions, Holy Family, with the remaining six first place votes and 89 points. USciences picked up 65 points while Chestnut Hill is predicted to be the final team in the South into the CACC Tournament with 56 points.
Goldey-Beacom (42 points), Wilmington (34), and for the first time in CACC basketball history, the south now has seven teams to match the North, with the addition of Georgian Court (14), to round out the South Division.
On the women’s side, both Caldwell and Holy Family were picked to repeat as CACC Division Regular Season Championship, but the South Division has narrowed the gap to the highly touted Tigers.
Caldwell picked up all 14 first place votes and a perfect 98 points, followed by Dominican with 73 points. Bloomfield finished third with 70 points followed by Felician in the No. 4 spot with 54. Post (48), Concordia (28), and Nyack (21) round out the rest of the women’s North Division.
Holy Family collected 88 points to lead the South Division, but only six first place votes. Philadelphia tallied seven first place votes and are two behind the Tigers with 86 points. USciences collected the final first place vote and sits in third place with 75 points. Goldey-Beacom was voted as the final CACC South Division playoff contender with 44 points.
Georgian Court (38 points), Chestnut Hill (36), and Wilmington (25) round out the rest of the CACC South Division.
The men’s team begins their 2013-14 campaign on Friday at the Bentley Tip-Off against Merrimack while the women start on Saturday at Lock Haven.
