Wilmington’s Ta’Vaune Griffin Named CACC Men’s Basketball Co-Defensive Player of the Week

For the second straight week sophomore center Ta’Vaune Griffin has been named on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Weekly Report, this week being named Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Griffin (Chester, Pa./Chester) averaged 12.5 rebounds per game on the week, despite the Wildcats (3-7, 1-2 CACC) going 0-2 on the week. He collected 12 defensive rebounds on the week while also swatting nine shot attempts in the two games combined.

In Wednesday’s contest against USciences, Griffin grabbed nine rebounds while blocking four shots in the CACC contest. The sophomore came back and grabbed a season high 16 boards on Saturday against Post while also blocking five shots. He also scored 12 points for the double-double against the Eagles.

At week’s end, Griffin leads the CACC in averaging 3.2 blocks per game in 10 games played. He is averaging 4.3 blocks per game in three CACC contests. Griffin is also third in the CACC with 80 total rebounds, and fifth in averaging 8.0 rebounds per game.

UScience’s Garret Kerr was named the men’s basketball Player of the Week for the third straight week after recording double-doubles in both the Devils’ contests last week. Post’s Derrick Strong was named the other Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Griffin after collecting a career high six steals and grabbing three boards against the Wildcats. Georgian Court’s Jalen Robinson was selected as the Rookie of the Week after going a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor against Lincoln and scoring 19 points against Caldwell.

The Wildcats head to Mercy on Wednesday for a nonconference matchup on Wednesday night before hosting Holy Family on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex at 3 p.m.
