Wilmington Golf Takes Head-to-Head Battle Against Bentley, Alexander Lautenschlaeger Earns Medalist Honors

Playing in its first event of the 2014 spring season, the Wilmington University golf team took care of Bentley in a head-to-head, one round event on Tuesday afternoon on the Kodiak/Black Bear course at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course.

The Wildcats posted a 293 team score, finishing +5 over the 72-par course, led by Tomasz Pulsakowski and Sam Clark’s even par (72) afternoon. Bentley finished with a 318 team score after taking the top four scores from each squad.

Playing as an individual for the event, Wildcat newcomer Alexander Lautenschlaeger took home medalist honors, finishing as the only player to score under par, completing the course with a 70 (-2).

Senior Matt DiEleuterio was the third Wildcat to score for the team, finishing at a 74, two-over par for the round. Sophomore Andreas Lunding rounded out the Wildcat team score with a 75, three-over par round. Freshman Freddy Braun tallied a five-over 77, finishing in a tie for sixth overall.

Also playing as individuals, freshman Jun Ahn tied Braun with a 77, finishing in a tie for sixth overall. Sophomore Alex Healy completed the Wilmington scores with an 85, 13-over par as an individual.

Pulsakowski posted the lone eagle of the afternoon on the par five 13th hole, adding two birdies and 12 pars to finish tied atop the leaderboard. Clark tallied three birdies and 12 pars on the afternoon, tying Pulsakowski for the Wildcats’ team score.

Lautenschlaeger recorded the most birdies among all the golfers, sinking four birdie putts to go along with 12 pars on the afternoon to come away with the medalist honors.

The four Par-5 holes were kind to the Wildcats on Tuesday, as they finished with a team score of three under par for the round on the four holes, averaging 4.85 strokes per par-5 hole. On the other side, Bentley averaged 5.25 strokes per par-5 hole.

Bentley was led by Tom Ayres who finished tied with Braun and Ahn in sixth place overall with a 77, five-over par score. Jon Stoddard finished ninth with a 78, six-over par score followed by Malcolm Oliver who tallied a 79, seven-over par round. Zach Pollard rounded out the Bentley team score with an 84, 12-over par round, bringing the team to a team score of 318.

The Wildcats return to action this Friday, playing in another head-to-head round against Felician in the WU Battle at the Beach. The head-to-head battle is in preparation for their first team tournament of the spring this weekend, as they continue to play at the Bayside Resort Golf Course in Selbyville, Del., in the Bayside Invitational hosted by Dowling College.
