Playing in its second head-to-head tournament of the week, the Wilmington University golf team came out victorious with a 305-393 one round score against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Felician on Friday afternoon at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course.
Junior Matt DiEleuterio continued his strong start to the spring season, earning medalist honors with a 76. Tomasz Pulsakowski and Sam Clark also tied DiEleuterio with a round low 76 to lead the Wildcats to the victory.
Andreas Lunding and Alexander Lautenschlaeger each tallied a 77, but the Wildcats only needed one of the scores to round out the team’s four scoring marks. Alex Healy and Jun Ahn also competed for the Wildcats, with Healy completing the 18 holes with a 79 and Ahn coming into the clubhouse with an 84.
DiEleuterio’s 76 came after the junior hit a 74 in the team’s previous head-to-head on Bear Trap Dunes on Tuesday, forcing head coach Harry Jennings to keep DiEleuterio in the lineup for the squads’ first tournament of the spring season this weekend.
“Matt’s made a huge improvement starting with his play this past fall,” Jennings said. “I’ve known he’s been able to do it, he was a Delaware State Champion in high school, beating (current teammate Andrew Baldo). I’m really happy with his progression this season and I hope it carries him and the team even further.”
Felician was led by Andrew Geesey’s 79 on Friday in the cold and windy conditions at the beach in Delaware.
The Wildcats remain at Bear Trap for the weekend, playing in the Bear Trap Dunes Invitational hosted by Dowling starting on Saturday.
