The 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference teams were announced earlier this week, with four Wilmington University student-athletes earning First and Second team honors.

The Wildcats (9-8, 6-5 CACC) just missed out on making the CACC play-offs on Tuesday, but these athletes had strong enough seasons to be recognized by the conference’s head coaches. Rebekah McCurry earned First Team recognition, while Second Team honors were awarded to Megan Keffer, Corrine Dries, and Ali Kern.

Rebekah McCurry (St.Leonard, Md./Calvert) was named First Team after ending the regular season with 22 assists, placing her fourth in the conference, 58 points, and 37 goals. McCurry led the CACC in caused turnovers, recording 34 for the season. The junior scored a season high five goals in two separate games, both coming against Holy Family. Her season totals of 22 assists and 59 points led the team in 2014. She was named CACC Player of the Week in March and Defensive Player of the Week on April 7.

Megan Keffer (Wilmington, Del./Concord) is joint top goal scorer for the Wildcats, tying with McCurry’s 37 goals. She is also second on the team with 48 points. In the CACC, she is ranked seventh with 42 ground balls, and eighth with 54 draw controls. One of Keffer’s stand out games came against Dominican as she recorded six goals on the day, while also adding five goals against Delaware State earlier in the season. She scored at least two goals in nine of the last 10 games, and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week on April 14.

Corinne Dries (Bear, Del./Smyrna) started all 17 games in goal for the Wildcats this season, totaling 128 saves which is third in the CACC. She finished third in the CACC with nine wins and fourth in the conference with a 10.70 goals against average. Her .412 save percentage ranks fifth in the CACC. The senior tallied double digit saves in six games this year, making a season high 14 stops in a 14-10 win over Holy Family.

After being named in the First Team All-CACC in 2013, Ali Kern (Middletown, Del./Middletown) has been awarded again with Second Team this time around. Kern has been a reliable defender for the Wildcats, starting in all 17 games and recording 35 ground balls for the season. Kern tied a single game record for the program recording seven ground balls against St. Thomas Aquinas at the beginning of the season.

Philadelphia’s Libby Nichols was named CACC Player of the Year while Chestnut Hill’s Alicia Herbert was named the CACC Rookie of the Year. Philadelphia’s head coach George Chis-Luca was named CACC Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to an undefeated conference record.

The Wildcats finished the season 9-8 overall, and 6-5 in the CACC. They finished third in the CACC South Division, narrowly missing a berth into the CACC tournament. The Wildcats posted two shutouts during the season, and closed out the season winning three of their last four games.
