Lady Wildcats Edged By Millersville, 2-1

The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the visiting Marauders of Millersville University, 2-1 in non-conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

Wilmington struck first, as freshman forward Brittany Rhodes connected on a through pass from sophomore Angelica Appold midway through the first half. The ‘Cats would hold onto the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the period and headed into the break up by that score.

It didn’t take long for Millersville to answer back with the equalizer, as Olivia Taylor finished a through pass from Jenna Gould just seven minutes into the second stanza. The Marauders’ Jenna Lininger tallied the game-winner, an unassisted goal at the 71:47 mark, when she knocked home a loose ball in the box. The goal, put the visitors ahead by a score of 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish.

The Wildcats’ Amanda Walters (4-2) recorded three saves in defeat, while the duo of Brandi Tipton and Taylor Suskie shared time in net for Millersville. Tipton recorded one save while giving up a goal during her 71 plus minutes of action, before giving way tos Suskie, who notched one save. Millersville outshot Wilmington by a 10-7 margin, and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 8-5-1 on the season while Millersville improved to 5-11-1 overall. The Wildcats return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to the Golden Falcons of Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match beginning at 12:00 PM.
