The Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington won the first set by a score of 25-22, but Bloomfield rallied to take the next two sets, 21-25 and 23-25. The forced a fifth set by winning 25-23 in the fourth, but ultimately fell in the final set by a 15-13 margin.
The ‘Cats were led by senior middle hitter Brittani Leathern, who posted 15 kills and nine blocks. Junior outside hitter Meghan Frick added 13 kills and 20 digs, while sophomore Paige Norvell chipped in with nine kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Shannon Rumple had 42 assists and 12 digs, and junior libero Brittany O’Neill recorded a match-high 26 digs.
Bloomfield was led by Ursula Pereira’s 27 kills and 18 digs. Da’Cheray Thomas added 13 kills while setter Gabriella Betoni had 53 assists and 19 digs. Libero Brittany Devries recorded 23 digs, while Uerequenia Pereira posted eight kills and 13 digs.
Following the match, Wilmington closed out their season with a 9-10 record in the CACC and an overall mark of 14-16, while Bloomfield improved to 9-10 in the conference and 9-18 on the season.
