Biography

2014 Season: Appeared in 37 games as a junior, making 31 starts behind the plate and three starts as the designated hitter – named First team Daktronics All-East Region – named Second Team NCBWA All-East Region – named Second Team ABCA All-East Region – named to CACC All-Tournament Team and First Team All-CACC – finished third on the team and fifth in the CACC with a .364 batting average, slugging .430 on the year – hit two doubles while going 3-for-4 with two runs scored at Bloomfield on Apr. 12 – had a season high three RBI in the season opener, batting 2-for-5 with a double against Mansfield – threw out nine would be base stealers on the year on 27 attempts.

2013 Season: Appeared in 53 games as a sophomore, making 49 starts at catcher and four starts as the designated hitter – named First Team All-CACC – named Second Team All-East Region for NCBWA – named to the NCAA Division II East Region All-Tournament Team – batted 8-for-18 in five games in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, scoring five runs while knocking in four – went a perfect 4-for-4 with a walk against St. Thomas Aquinas in the East Region Tournament – collected a season high four RBI in going 3-for-4 with a double at Chestnut Hill – also threw out 20 would-be base stealers on the season.

2012 Season: Appeared in 29 games as a freshman, making 21 starts as a catcher and designated hitter – started two games in the CACC Tournament and two in the NCAA East Region Tournament behind the plate – team went 16-5 when starting as the catcher – had a season high three hits at Nyack, batting 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored – also batted 2-for-3 in his first career game against St. Rose.

High School: Four year letterwinner as a catcher on the baseball team at Deerfield Beach High School – named the Team MVP as a senior and finished fourth in Broward County with a .541 batting average – named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team – also a four year member of the golf team – earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and was the team’s MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior – earned the Butler Scholarship for his work in academics and athletics

Personal: Mathew Lopes – son of Eric and Dawn Lopes – business management major at Wilmington and wants to pursue or a career in baseball, or enter the hotel business in Florida after graduating – from Deerfield Beach, Fla. – his all-time favorite athlete s Chipper Jones – if he could be anything other than a professional athlete, he would be a professional poker player – if he could date a celebrity, he would date Blake Lively – if he could be the head coach of a team for a year, he would want to coach the Green Bay Packers.
