3/2/2008 – FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY
‘CATS DROP TWO AGAINST FRANKLIN PIERCE
NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington dropped two games against Franklin Pierce, falling 9-1 in the opening game, and losing 6-1 in the nightcap.
Franklin Pierce held the Wilmington to just three hits in game one, while the Ravens had 13 of their own. Junior Cody Holliday went 2-for-3 with a homerun for the Wildcats. Senior Joe Matterer (0-1) took the loss for the Wildcats, as he gave up seven runs (six earned) and nine hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Wilmington lost the second game by a score of 6-1. Freshman shortstop Matt Umba went 2-for-3 in the game and senor catcher Matt Gianni scored the only run for the ‘Cats. Jimmy Okoniewski (0-1) took the loss for Wilmington, as he gave up five runs (four earned) and four hits in five innings of work.
Following the games, the Wildcats dropped to 0-2 on the season and Franklin Pierce improved to 2-0.

WILMINGTON WINS CLOSE ONE AGAINST C,W. POST
BOCA RATON, FL -- The Wildcats pulled out their first win of the season, knocking off C.W. Post University by a score of 5-4.
Wilmington had nine hits in the game, as senior Matt Gianni was 1-for-3 with three runs batted in. Freshman Drew Anusky was 1-for-1 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in.
Sophomore southpaw Cameron Saienni went six innings for Wilmington, allowing two runs (both earned) on nine hits. Freshman Anthony Cimabue took the win for the Wildcats (1-0) allowing one hit.
With the win the wildcats improve to 1-2 on the season, while C.W. Post falls to 0-6 for the season.
3/5/2008 – Florida Spring TrainingSt. Thomas University (FL)
WILDCATS FALL TO ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY
MIAMI, FL -- Wilmington’s eight runs were just not enough against St. Thomas University as the Wildcats fell by a score of 9-8.
Freshman Andre Mandarin0 went 3-for-4 with one run batted in and one run scored, classmate Joe Brown and senior Matt Gianni were each 2-for-4. Brown had one run batted in and two runs scored and Gianni scored two runs. Senior Brian Testa helped out with two runs batted in and one run scored.
Senior Bill Cecconi started the game, went 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits. Steve Messick took the loss going 1 1/3 inning allowing one run (earned) on two hits.
Following the game the ‘Cats fell to 1-3 overall while St. Thomas University improved to 7-9 overall.

BARRY UNIVERISTY DOWNS ‘CATS, 14-4
MIAMI, FL -- The Wildcats lost to Barry University by a score of 14-4 while on their spring trip in Florida.
Senior Brian Testa went 2-for-5 in the game with a run scored, while classmate Mike Wilson was 2-for-4 with one run batted in and one run scored.
Junior lefty Sean Gorham took the loss in the game allowing six runs (six earned) and five hits in two innings.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 1-4 on the season.

WILMINGTON DROPS TWO AGAINST MANSFIELD
SANTA LUCES, FL -- The Wildcats lost both games of a double header to Mansfield University while in Florida. Wilmington dropped game one by a score of 5-3 and game two by a score of 6-4.
Senior Brian Testa was 1-for-4 in the game with one run batted in and one run scored and senior Mike Wilson was 1-for-3 with one run batted in.
Freshman Anthony Cimabue took the loss (1-1) allowing five runs (four earned) and six hits. Cimabue had three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Senior Joe Danks was 2-for-4 with one run batted in and one run scored in game two. Outfielder Spike Austin was 1-for-4 with a run scored, and senior Chris Brooks was 1-for-3 with one run batted in.
Junior Cody Holliday started the game for the ‘Cats and went 4 innings allowing four runs (all earned) and four hits. Freshman Drew Anusky took the loss, allowing two runs (all earned) and three hits in 2 1/3 innings pitched .
Following the game Wilmington fell to 1-6 overall and Mansfield improved to 3-0 on the season

‘CATS END TRIP ON SOUR NOTE
BOCA RATON, FL -- The Wildcats lost both games to Molloy University in a double header on Saturday afternoon in Florida. Wilmington lost the first game by a score on 10-1 and the second game by a score of 10-5.
In game one junior Cody Holliday was 1-for-3 with a homerun scoring the Wildcats lone run.
Senior Joe Matterer fell to 0-2 on the season allowing six runs (all earned) and nine hits. Matterer had six strikeout in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
In the second game, senior Chris Brooks was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one run batted in, senior Brian Testa was 1-for-4 with one run scored and two runs batted in, and classmate Matt Gianni was 1-for-2 with one run scored.
Senior Jimmy Okoniewski started the game, going 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) and five hits. Okoniewski had seven strikeouts in the game. Sophomore Phil Aviola took the loss allowing three runs (two earned) and three hits in one inning of work.
Following the games, Wilmington ended their spring trip with a 1-8 record. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Setters of Pace University in a doubleheader at Wilson Field beginning at 12:00 PM.
3/15/2008 – PACE UNIVERSITY
WILDCATS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH PACE UNIVERSITY
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University split a doubleheader against the Setters of Pace University in non-conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. Wilmington took game one by a score of 3-2, and the Setters rallied to take game two by the same 3-2 score.
In the opening game, Wilmington went down two after Pace scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Senior center fielder Chris Brooks got the Wildcats rolling in the fourth, after he reached on an error by the Pace third baseman. Senior captain Brian Testa drove Brooks in on a RBI groundout. In the sixth inning, the Wildcats senior second baseman Joe Roth started the inning off with a single, and later scored on a double by Spike Austin. Testa added a sacrifice fly to plate Austin, giving the Wildcats the 3-2 lead. Wilmington would hold on for the one-run victory.
Senior right-hander Joe Matterer (1-2) picked up the win, surrendering six hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out two in seven innings pitched. Senior Clint Kuhl had two strike outs in a two inning save (his first) for Wilmington. Zach Dayton picked up the loss for the Setters going five and two third innings, giving up three hits and three runs (all earned).
In the second game of the day, Pace University picked up the 3-2 victory. This time it was the Wildcats who scored first, as Brooks scored after a single by senior captain Matt Gianni and a couple of walks.. After a three run sixth inning by the Setters, Wilmington threatened in the seventh after Testa plated Brooks on a single, but it just was not enough as the game ended giving Pace the win.
Senior hurler Jimmy Okoniewski (0-3) picked up the loss as he gave up five hits and three runs (zero earned), while striking out five in five and two third innings pitched. Pace’s Mackenzie King picked up the win and freshman Mike Sciarretta earned the save for the Setters.
With the split, the Wildcats record now stands at 2-9 overall, while Pace University is 7-2 on the season. Wilmington returns to action tomorrow as the Wildcats face off against Pace University in the last game of the series, a single game starting at 2:00 PM.
3/16/2008 – PACE UNIVERSITY
WILMINGTON FINISHES SERIES WITH 7-2 WIN OVER PACE
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University finished off their season series with Pace University, on Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 victory. With the win, the Wildcats improve their record to 3-9 overall and Pace University falls to 7-3 overall.
Wilmington jumped on the bored in the third inning when senior Joe Roth walked then stole second, after senior Chris Brooks reached on an error by Pace’s first baseman. After an error by the Setter’s pitcher Mike Mastrogiovanni, Roth scored, and Brooks later scored on a wild pitch. Pace tied the game up in the top of the sixth, but a double by junior outfielder Cody Holliday scored senior Brian Testa giving the lead right back to the Wildcats in the bottom of the inning. After a RBI single in the seventh by freshman Matt Umba gave Wilmington a 4-2 lead, they put the game away with a three run eighth inning.

3/18/2008 – MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY
WILDCATS FALL TO MOUNTAINEERS
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the visiting Moutaineers of Mansfield University, 12-8 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field. With the loss the Wildcats fell to 3-10 overall while Mansfield improved their record to 12-5 on the season.
Wilmington started off a little slow as Mansfield scored the game’s first three runs. In the third inning, the ‘Cats got on the board when freshman Drew Anusky drove in senior Spike Austin with a single. g Wilmington’s bats came alive in the fourth, with senior captain Brian Testa starting the inning off with an RBI single, and Austin followed with a homer, giving the ‘Cats a four-run inning and cutting the deficit to one (4-3). After a four-run fifth by the Mountaineers, Wilmington tried fighting back with two homeruns by senior Mike Wilson and Austin but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell by a score of12-8.
Bill Cecconi (0-1)took the loss for the Wildcats, after going 2 and 1/3 inning giving up seven hits, and five runs (three earned). Chad Smith got the win for Mansfield with Tyler Noel getting the save.
Senior Spike Austin was 3-for-5, including two homeruns, three runs scored, and three RBI. Mike Wilson finished 2-for-3 with a homer, and three RBI, while Brian Testa had two hits, scored once, and drove in one for the Wildcats.
Abram Yaekel (3-for-5) had a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Mountaineers. Nate Grove was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI, while Matt Young was 3-for-5. Justin Baer finished 2-for-6 with one run scored and three RBI.
The Wildcats return to the diamond on Thursday afternoon, when they face off against the Chargers of the University of New Haven in a doubleheader (two 7-inning games) at 1:00 PM.
3/20/2008 – UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN
WILMINGTON FALLS TO NEW HAVEN, 5-2
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University dropped a non-conference game to the visiting Chargers of the University of New Haven, 5-2 in baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Wilmington jumped on the board in the bottom of the first, as senior Brian Testa and junior Cody Holliday followed each other with back-to-back RBI singles that gave the ‘Cats the 2-0 lead. New Haven answered back in the third, plating three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Chargers added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, on a two-run blast by Jimmy Rivas.
Senior Joe Matterer (1-2) suffered the loss for Wilmington, as he gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) and struck out three in three innings of work. Classmate Jimmy Okoniewski pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the ‘Cats. Dan Blake earned the complete game victory for New Haven, as he scattered six hits and two runs (both earned), while striking out four, through nine innings.
Senior outfielder Chris Brooks added a pair of singles for Wilmington, while classmate Brian Testa was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Senior Spike Austin and junior Cody Holliday, both outfielders, recorded the Wildcats’ other hits.
New Haven’s Jimmy Rivas finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Evan Okon scored two runs while Michael Moras and Chad Lemos each went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Tom Ballaro was 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Chargers.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 3-11 on the season, while New Haven improved to 4-9 overall. The Wildcats return to the diamond on Friday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Golden Bears of Kutztown University in a non-conference game beginning at 2:30 PM.
3/21/2008 – Kutztown University
'CATS HOLD OFF KUTZTOWN, 8-6

KUTZTOWN, PA -- The Kutztown University baseball team rallied in the ninth but came up short, falling 8-6 to Wilmington University (Del.) Friday at North Campus Field.
The Golden Bears (7-10) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on base, but Wilmington pitcher Clint Kuhl got to ground out to end the game.
Wilmington (4-11) took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run from Drew Anusky in the top of the second, but KU countered in the bottom half, scoring three run so for the 3-1 lead. Matt Kulbacki led off the inning with a solo homer to left field and Jared Frey, who singled with one out, scored on a single from Mike Kacelowicz. Kacelowicz was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
With Chad Lightcap at the plate and the bases load, Wilmington’s catcher was called for catcher’s interference, plating Michael Dugan.
Both Frey and Lightcap had three hits in the game. Frey was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Lightcap was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Wilmington bounced back after KU’s three-run second inning to score four in the top of the third.
Brian Testa led off the inning with a home run to left center, and KU starting pitcher Darin Gorski allowed the next four batters to have free passes — one hit batter, who was caught stealing, and three straight walks.
Matt Umba drove on run in with his fielder’s choice and Mike Wilson knocked in two more with his double to right field to make it 5-3.
Lightcap made it to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth, singling in Kacelowicz, who tripled to start the inning.
Wilmington added two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to make it 8-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, where a two-out, two-run single from Frey cut the Golden Bears’ deficit to 8-6.
Dugan, who went 2-for-4, made it back-to-back singles by beating out the throw to first on his grounder to shortstop, but Wilmington forced Saylor’s groundout to end the game.
Gorski pitched 6.2 innings for KU, striking out nine and allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks.
Wilmington’s Anthony Cimabue (2-1) picked up the win, pitching six innings and allowing four runs — three earned — on nine hits and three walks.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.

WILMINGTON SPLITS WITH EAST STROUDSBURG
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University split a doubleheader with the visiting Warriors of East Stroudsburg University in non-conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. Wilmington won game one by a score of 6-2, but fell 9-1 in game two.
East Stroudsburg jumped on the board first, plating a single run in the top of the second on a solo home run by Mike Dunkailo. Wilmington answered back in the third with a three-run inning, as the big blow came as a one-run double off the bat of senior Brian Testa. The ‘Cats scored three more in the fourth, and Testa drove in two.
Sophomore southpaw Cameron Saienni (2-0) earned the victory for Wilmington, as he scattered four hits and two runs (one earned) and struck out three in six innings of work. Freshman Drew Anusky pitched a scoreless seventh for the ‘Cats.
Brian Testa finished the game going 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Senior Mike Wilson was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI, while classmate Joe Danks was 1-for-1 with two runs scored.
Wilmington could not get the offense going in game two, as the Warriors held them to just four hits. East Stroudsburg scored three in the first, and added three insurance runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, as they cruised to the 9-1 win.
Freshman John Baker (0-1) took the loss, as he gave up two hits and three runs (all earned) in just two-thirds of an inning.
The Warriors’ Mike Bortz finished the game going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored, and six RBI. Bill Helzel picked up the win, as he scattered two hits and one run (earned), while striking out seven in four innings of work.
Testa, Danks, Anusky, and freshman Matt Umba had the Wildcats hits, while senior Joe Roth drove in the lone run for Wilmington.
Following the games, Wilmington now stands at 5-12 on the season, while East Stroudsburg is 9-13 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Marauders of Millersville University in a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 PM.
3/25/2008 – MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY
GRAND-SLAM GIVES WILDCATS WALK-OFF WIN
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University defeated the Marauders of Millersville University Tuesday afternoon in thrilling fashion, with a walk off grand-slam off the bat of senior Brian Testa in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the 13-9 victory, Wilmington improves their record to 6-12 overall, while Millersville falls to 6-14 on the season.
The Wildcats started off the game with a three run first inning with junior Cody Holliday and senior Matt Gianni each driving in a run, while freshman Drew Anusky scored on a passed ball. After a one-run second for the Marauders, the Wildcats answered with a two-run third, as Gianni got his second RBI of the game. Senior Spike Austin scored on a wild pitch, giving Wilmington a 5-1 lead going into the fourth. Millersville brought the game within two after a two-run fifth inning, but the Wildcats again answered right back in the sixth when senior Chris Brooks singled into right scoring Austin, and the ‘Cats took a 9-6 lead.
In the ninth inning the Millersville offense woke up, and had six Marauders cross the plate tying the game up at nine going into the bottom of the ninth. After a walk issued to Gianni, senior Joe Danks had a successful sacrifice bunt, moving Gianni to second. After a intentional walk to Brooks, and a single by senior Joe Roth, Brian Testa stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off, game-winning grand-slam.
Testa was 5-for-6 in the game with two runs scored and five RBIs including the game winning hit, while Gianni went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Seniors Chris Brooks, Spike Austin, and Joe Roth each added two hits, as did freshman Drew Anusky.
Brett Rhoads was 4-for-6 for Millersville with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Corey Phelan, Cody Wile, and Lance Millers each added three hits for the Marauders.
Senior Joe Matterer pitched seven innings, and gave up 13 hits and three runs (all earned), while striking out four. Cody Holliday (1-0) picked up the win for Wilmington, while Brett Rhoads took the loss for Millersville giving up four hits and four runs (all earned) in one and one-third innings pitched.
The Wildcats are in action on Wednesday afternoon, when they play host to the seventh ranked Golden Rams of West Chester University. The game is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
3/26/2008 – WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY
WILMINGTON FALLS TO #7 WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY, 16-2
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University lost Wednesday afternoon’s game to the visiting Golden Rams of West Chester University. West Chester entered the game, ranked seventh in Division II in the latest poll. With the 16-2 loss, the ‘Cats record drops to 6-13 overall, while West Chester improves their record to 22-2 overall.
West Chester jumped out to a quick lead, scoring two runs in the first and did not look back. After a four-run inning in the second, the Golden Rams’ big inning came in the fifth when they had nine players cross the plate. Wilmington tried getting the offense started in the bottom of the fifth scoring their first run, but could not keep it going. The Wildcats added one more run in the eighth, and lost the game by a score of 16-2.
Senior Joe Danks was 1-for-3 with a home run in the fifth inning to give the Wilmington its first run, and in the eighth senior Chris Brooks (1-for-2) scored on a wild pitch.
West Chester was led by Matt Cotellese and Frank Nunan, who were both 4-for-5 in the ball game. Cotellese had two home runs and seven RBIs, while Nunan scored twice and drove in two. Nick Spisak was 2-for-6 with a pair of runs and four RBIs, while Kyle Bechter finished the game going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Freshman Anthony Cimabue (2-2) suffered the loss for Wilmington, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits in just an inning and two-thirds. Chris Ott earned the win for West Chester as he gave up just one run (earned) and three hits in five innings of work.
The Wildcats are back in action Thursday, March 27th, when they play host to the Deacons of Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up. The game is set for 3:00 PM.
3/31/2008 – BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
WILDCATS HOLD OFF BLOOMFIELD, 8-5
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University defeated the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 8-5 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball opener on Monday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Wilmington wasted little time in getting on the board, as an RBI single from senior catcher Matt Gianni and an RBI double from classmate Mike Wilson gave the Wildcats a quick 2-0 lead after one. The ‘Cats added a single run in the second, when a RBI single from junior Cody Holliday put the hosts up 3-0. Wilmington blew the game open in third, plating five runs. Senior Joe Roth notched a sacrifice fly scoring Wilson, while Chris Brooks plated a run with a RBI groundout. Senior Brian Testa followed with a double that plated classmate Joe Danks. Holliday added a RBI triple to score Testa, and freshman Drew Anusky closed out the scoring for the Wildcats with a RBI single to plate Holliday.
Bloomfield answered back with a single run in the fourth when Eric Tanis recorded a RBI single. The Deacons scored four in the eighth, as the Wildcat bullpen struggled. Alex Munoz and Eric Tanis each recorded extra-base hits and drove in a run, while Edwin Pagan and Jonathan Moehlig also picked up RBIs.
Wildcat starter, senior Jimmy Okoniewski (1-2) had a great outing, giving up just four hits and one run (earned) while striking out nine in seven innings of work. Senior Clint Kuhl pitched a one-two-three ninth for his third save, striking out the side.
Matthew Snyder took the loss for Bloomfield, surrendering ten hits and eight runs (all earned) in just two and two-third innings.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 1-0 in the CACC and 7-13 overall, while Bloomfield dropped to 1-2 in the conference and 10-16 on the season. The Wildcats return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in a conference game beginning at 3:30 PM.
4/1/2008 – UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES IN PHILADELPHIA
WILMINGTON FALLS TO USP, 13-5
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 13-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field. With the loss Wilmington’s record drops to 7-14 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Devils improve their record to 6-14 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Devils jumped out to a quick lead scoring one run in the second inning and then two in the third. The Wildcats answered right back with a two-run third inning as senior captain Matt Gianni and senior Mike Wilson had back to back singles scoring Brian Testa and Cody Holliday. Those runs cut the lead to 3-2 going into the fourth inning. After a five-run inning by the Devils in the fourth, the ‘Cats closed the gap in the sixth after a double by senior Joe Danks scored two, but another five run inning in the seventh closed the deal for USP as they went on to the 13-5 victory.
Senior outfielder Spike Austin went 2-for-4 in the game with one run scored, while Gianni was 1-for-4 with two RBI’s and Holliday was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Wildcats.
USP was lead by junior Pete McCauley and senior Michael Curry, who both recorded four RBI’s for the Devils. McCauley also scored three runs in the contest.

WEST CHESTER, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were downed by the seventh ranked Golden Rams of West Chester University, 14-2 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.
Wilmington got on the board first when senior Brian Testa notched an RBI single to plate sophomore Phil Aviola in the third inning. The Golden Rams answered right in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at one. West Chester scored three in the fifth, giving them a 4-1 lead before a solo home run by Testa in the sixth cut the lead to 4-2. The hosts blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning and scored four more in the eighth, cruising to the 14-2 victory.
Freshman right-hander John Baker (0-2) took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) and two hits in four and two-thirds innings of work. Chris Ott picked up the win for West Chester, giving up four hits and two run (both earned) in six innings.
Senior Brian Testa led the Wildcat offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, while senior Mike Wilson, junior Cody Holliday, and freshmen Andre Mandarino and Chaz Losito each recorded hits for Wilmington.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 7-15 on the season, while West Chester improved to 27-2 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon when they play host to the Warriors of Nyack College in a CACC game beginning at 3:00 PM at Wilson Field.

OKONIEWSKI DOMINATES AS WILDCATS DOWN NYACK, 6-1
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wilmington University Wildcats defeated the Warriors of Nyack College, 6-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Monday afternoon. With the win Wilmington improved their record to 7-15 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, while Nyack fell to 5-14 overall and 3-5 in the CACC.
Wilmington controlled most of the game, with their first run coming in the third on a double by senior Spike Austin that scored Brian Testa from second base. In the fourth, the Wildcats added on another run after a double by senior Joe Danks and an error by the Warriors, but it was in the fifth inning that they put the game away. After a four run fifth inning and a six run lead, the Wildcats sealed the game, and went on to win by a score of 6-1.
Austin led the offensive attack for Wilmington going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. Danks was 2-for-3 in the ballgame with one RBI and one run scored, while senior Chris Brooks went 2-for-4, and senior Joe Roth went 1-for-2 in the contest.
Sophomore Phil Messerian was 2-for-4 for the Warriors and scored their only run in the game, while junior Cody Levins and sophomore Jonathan Mott were both 1-for-3 for Nyack.
Senior Jimmy Okoniewski (2-2) struck out 16 in a complete game win, allowing five hits and one run (earned) in the contest. Taylor Getzke took the loss for Nyack allowing six runs (five eared) and six hits in five innings pitched.

WILMINGTON SWEEPS CHESTNUT HILL
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept a doubleheader against the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Colligate Conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field. Wilmington rallied to take game one by a score of 3-2, and cruised to a 14-1 win in the nightcap.
In the opening game, Chestnut Hill jumped on the board in the top of the first, but the Wildcats struck right back in the bottom of the inning with senior Spike Austin tying the game on a Chestnut Hill error. In the fourth, a triple by Andrew Donofry scored Mike Knipe for the Griffin, and gave them a 2-1 lead. The scored stayed that way until in the bottom of the seventh inning, when freshman Drew Anusky singled to plate junior Cody Holliday. With the game tied at two, senior Joe Danks stepped to the plate and knocked in classmate Matt Gianni with the game-winning run.
Sophomore southpaw Cameron Saienni improved his record to 3-0 for Wilmington, with the complete game victory. Saienni allowed four hits and two runs (two earned) in the game, while striking out seven. Tom Walton picked up the loss for the Griffins, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned).
The Wildcats bats came alive in game two, as they scored in every inning except the fifth. In the first two innings, Wilmington went up by a score of 2-0 after a triple by Holliday scored senior Chris Brooks in the first and sophomore Phil Aviola hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Danks. In the third, the Wildcats scored six runs on four hits, with Aviola having three RBI’s in the inning on a bases loaded triple. Senior Brian Testa also knocked in a run, and Holliday rounded off the inning with a double scoring two runs for Wilmington. The ‘Cats bats remained hot, and Wilmington came right back in the fourth with six hits and five more runs, to put the game out of reach for the Griffins. The Wildcats cruised to the 14-1 victory.
Senior Joe Matterer improved his record to 2-4 on the season after a four-hit, one-run (earned) performance. Matterer had eight strike outs in six inning pitched for Wilmington. Freshman Justin Wiercinski took the loss for Chestnut Hill going one and one-third innings, and gave up four hits and two runs (two earned).
With the sweep, Wilmington improved their overall record 10-15 and 4-1 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill dropped to 5-18 overall and 3-7 in the CACC. The Wildcats return to action on Thursday afternoon, when they travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia to face off against the Devils in a CACC double header beginning at 1:30PM.

WILMINGTON TAKES TWO FROM USP
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept a doubleheader against the Devils from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in Central Atlantic Colligate Conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Ashburn Field. Wilmington took game one by a score of 8-3, and completed the sweep with a 9-2 win in the nightcap.
Wilmington jumped out on top early in the opening game with a five run first inning. The ‘Cats started the game off with five straight hits, including back-to-back doubles from seniors Chris Brooks and Brian Testa, followed by three consecutive singles from junior Cody Holliday, and seniors Mike Wilson and Matt Gianni. After a USP error and a single from freshman Chaz Losito, senior Spike Austin stole home for the fifth run of the inning. The Devils did not threaten until the sixth inning when Phil Maher doubled then scored on a fielders choice making the score 7-1. After a homerun by Wilson in the top of the seventh the Devils could only get back two runs in the bottom of the frame, and the Wildcats picked up the 8-3 victory.
Freshman right hander Anthony Cimabue (3-2) earned the win for Wilmington as he threw six innings, giving up five hits and one run (earned) while striking out seven. Freshman Tim Summers (4-2) took the loss for the Devils going three and two third innings giving up 10 hits and seven runs (four earned).
In the second game of the day, the Devils struck first with in the first inning, but the Wildcats quickly erased deficit with a two-run second as senior Joe Danks hit a two run shot. In the third, freshman Drew Anusky added a run after Austin knocked him in, giving the visitors a 3-1 lead. Wilmington put two more runs on the board in the fifth with three straight hits from Testa, Holliday, and Wilson. The Wildcats put the game away with a four-run sixth inning, giving Wilmington a 9-1 lead, and the ‘Cats went on to earn the 9-2 win.
Senior Clint Kuhl (1-0) picked up his first win of the season pitching a complete game. Kuhl gave up eight hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four in seven innings of work. Phil Maher (1-4) suffered the loss for the Devils, giving up 10 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in five innings pitched.
With the sweep, the Wildcats improve to 12-15 overall and 6-1 in the CACC, while USP dropped to 7-17 on the season and 3-6 in the CACC. Wilmington returns to action on Friday afternoon as the Wildcats face off against Post University, in the first game of a three game series. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM.

WILDCATS COMPLETE THREE-GAME SWEEP OF POST
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wilmington University Wildcats completed a three-game series sweep of the Eagles of Post University, this past weekend in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action at Wilson Field. With the wins, Wilmington improved to 9-1 in the CACC and 15-15 overall, while Post fell to 11-17 on the season and 3-6 in the conference.
In the first game of the series, both teams put up a lot of offense, but it was Wilmington held on for the 13-10 victory. In a very exciting first inning the Wildcats came out swinging, putting up four runs on four hits, as senior Spike Austin hit a two run shot to cap-off the inning. The Eagles answered right back with a three-run first inning of their own. In the second, the Wildcats came back with three more runs as junior Cody Holliday and senior Matt Gianni each had two RBIs in the inning. After a one-run third and a three-run fourth for Post, the game was tied going into the fifth, when Wilmington opened the game back up with three runs on five hits. In the seventh, a sacrifice fly to deep center field by freshman Chaz Losito added one more run for the ‘Cats, while in the eighth, seniors Brian Testa and Mike Wilson hit back-to-back homeruns giving Wilmington a 13-7 lead. The Eagles added three more over the next two innings, but Wilmington held on for the 13-10 win.
Freshman Drew Anusky (1-1) picked up the win for Wilmington giving up four hits and one run (unearned) with five strikeouts in four and two-third innings pitched. Brendan Wyman took the loss in the first game for Post, giving up eight hits and seven runs (all earned) in two innings of work.
In the second game of the series, the offense was limited, as Wilmington pulled out the 2-1 victory in extra innings. The ‘Cats’ Cody Holliday scored the first run of the game on a Post error in the third inning, and in the fifth the Eagles tied the game on a RBI single by junior Corey Huffine , and sent the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs the Wildcats worked three straight walks loading the bases for Matt Gianni, who hit a single into right field scoring Testa for the game winning run.
Senior Jimmy Okoniewski pitched six strong innings, giving up three hits and one run (earned) in the contest, with Sophomore Phil Aviola, Messick, and Holliday chipping in relief. Holliday (2-0) picked up the win for Wilmington. Rickie Pierro pitched eight strong innings for the Eagles, giving up seven hits and one run (unearned) with 10 strikeouts. Johnny Fiqueroa picked up the loss for Post.
In the final game of the series it only took one inning for the Wildcats to pull off the sweep. Wilmington started off the bottom of the third inning with five straight hits as Wilson, Austin and senior Joe Roth picked up RBIs for Wilmington. The Eagles scored one run in the fifth but that would be all they would get, as Wilmington went on to win the contest by a score of 5-1 and completed the three-game series sweep.
Junior Sean Gorham (1-1) pitched five innings giving up five hits and one run (earned) and earned the win, while senior Joe Matterer picked up the two-inning save. Michael Wolfe took the loss for Post, giving up 11 hits and five runs (all earned) in six innings pitched.

LATE RALLY GIVES WILDCATS WIN OVER RED HAWKS
LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- The Wilmington University Wildcats improved their record with a close, come from behind 3-2 victory over the host Red Hawks of Montclair State University. With their ninth straight win, Wilmington improved to 16-15 overall, while Montclair State fell to 14-11 overall.
Wilmington struck first with a run in the top of the fourth inning as freshmen Drew Anusky and Matt Umba had back-to-back singles. Senior Joe Roth then hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop, scoring Anusky and giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks answered right back in the bottom of the fifth with a double down the left field line scoring two, giving hosts the 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Anusky stepped to the plate and tied the game with one swing of the bat, hitting a homerun to deep left field. Going into the ninth inning knotted at two, Wilmington kept the momentum going when Roth singled up the middle to start off the frame. Two outs later, senior Brian Testa hit a hard shot through the left side, and gave the ‘Cats a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Sophomore Phil Aviola held the Red Hawk offense at bay in the the bottom of the ninth, and Wilmington came away with the 3-2 victory.
Drew Anusky went 2-for-4 on the day with two runs scored and an RBI, while Matt Umba was 2-for-3. Brian Testa was 1-for-3 in the contest, including the game-winning hit.
Josh Miller was 3-for-5 for the Red Hawks with two RBIs and senior Michael Nunes went 2-for-5 with one run scored.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the host Deacons of Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. Wilmington took game one by a 13-2 score, and closed out the sweep with a 16-7 victory in the nightcap. The 13-2 win in the first game, marked Head Coach Brian August's 100th career coaching victory.
The ‘Cats wasted little time in getting on the board, as the offense put up eleven runs over the first four innings. Bloomfield added a single run in the bottom of the fourth, but Wilmington added three more in the top of the seventh to take a 13-1 lead. The Deacons scored another run in the bottom of the frame, and Wilmington came away with the 13-2 win.

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Senior third baseman Mike Wilson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, to break a 3-3 tie and send the Wildcats of Wilmington University to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Friday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Caldwell jumped on the board first, when they plated a single run in the second. The Cougars added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Wilmington cut the lead to one in the fifth on senior Spike Austin’s RBI single. Caldwell scored another run in the top of the eight, but the Wildcats tied it at three in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by freshman Drew Anusky and a bases loaded walk by senior Chris Brooks. The ‘Cats ended it in dramatic fashion when Wilson hit a towering blast to end the game, giving the hosts the 4-3 win.
Sophomore Phil Aviola (1-1) picked up the win, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Senior Jimmy Okoniewski went seven and two-thirds innings, scattering seven hits and three runs (all earned), while striking out five. Mike Wilson was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while senior catcher Matt Gianni continued his torrid hitting, going 3-for-4. Spike Austin added two singles, for the Wildcats.

CALDWELL, NJ -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University dropped a doubleheader to the host Cougars of Caldwell College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon. Wilmington fell 7-2 in the first game, before getting shutout 15-0 in the nightcap.
Wilmington jumped on the board, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Senior Chris Brooks came home on a Caldwell error, while Mike Wilson had a RBI single to give the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead. The Cougars added a single run in the third, and blew the game open in the fourth, as they plated four runs. Two came in on a Doug Hilgenburg home run, and another two scored on a RBI double from Jorge Torres. Caldwell added two more in the sixth for insurance, and held on for the 7-2 win.
Freshman Anthony Cimabue (3-3) suffered the loss for Wilmington, giving up eight hits and five runs (four earned) over three and two-thirds innings of work. Robert Casal picked up the win for Caldwell, giving up just four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out 15 in the complete-game win. Brooks, Wilson, and seniors Brian Testa and Spike Austin had the Wildcats’ lone hits.
The Cougars scored first in the second game, plating two in the bottom of the first. After a seven-run second inning, the hosts added six more over the next two innings to take a commanding 15-0 lead. That score would hold, as the pitching of Omar Velazquez kept the Wildcat offense at bay.
Senior Clint Kuhl (1-1) took the loss, as he gave up nine hits and nine runs (all earned) in just one and two-thirds innings pitched. Velazquez picked up the win, giving up just four hits and striking out seven in the complete game shut-out victory. Seniors Joe Roth and Joe Danks, along with sophomore Phil Aviola and junior Sean Gorham all had singles for Wilmington.

WILMINGTON SWEEPS NYACK TO COMPLETE SEASON SERIES
NYACK, NY -- The Wilmington University Wildcats took both games of a double header Monday afternoon as they traveled to Nyack College to finish up their series against the Warriors. The ‘Cats won 5-3 in the first game and completed the sweep with a 3-2 win in the nightcap. With the wins, Wilmington improved their record to 21-17 overall and 14-3 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), while Nycak dropped to 10-21 on the season and 8-11 in the CACC.
In the first game, Wilmington opened the game with two runs in the top of the first as senior Brian Testa singled in classmate Matt Gianni. Then with two outs, junior Cody Holliday hit a double scoring Testa and gave the ‘Cats a two run lead. After the Warriors cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first, Wilmington came back with two more runs in the fourth, as senior Joe Danks hit in freshman Matt Umba. Danks later scored on a fielder’s choice. Nyack answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the ‘Cats added one more run in the sixth after Umba scored on a Holliday single to make the score 5-3, and the Wildcats went on to win by the same score.
Senior Bill Cecconi (1-1 picked up the win for Wilmington, as he went four innings and gave up six hits and three runs (three earned) with two strikeouts. Freshman Drew Anusky, sophomore Phil Aviola, and senior Clint Kuhl all pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Freshman Wayne Richardson took the loss for Nyack pitching seven innings, and allowed six hits and five runs (four earned).
In the second game of the night, Wilmington again struck first, but Nyack answered right back in the bottom of the inning. After back-to-back doubles from Holliday and senior Spike Austin, and a RBI single from Aviola, the Wildcats went up 2-0 in the second inning. In the bottom of the second, the Warriors came back with two runs of their own, tying the game right at two. In the sixth, senior Mike Wilson hit a long sacrifice fly to right field to score Gianni with what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Sean Gorham (2-1) pitched five strong innings, giving up five hits and two runs (two earned) while striking out three in the win. Senior Jimmy Okoniewski came in, and picked up his first save of the season. Okoniewski struck out two of the four batters he faced. MILLERSVILLE, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Marauders of Millersville University, 14-9 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams put on quite the offensive show, as they combined to score 23 runs and pounded out 38 hits. Wilmington took a quick 5-0 lead after two innings, and went ahead 8-1 after the top of the fifth. Millersville responded and plated 13 over the next four innings to come away with the 14-9 victory.
Senior Brian Testa led the Wildcats, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Classmate Mike Wilson was 4-for-5 with a RBI, while Spike Austin was 3-for-6 with a pair of runs and RBIs. Freshman Matt Umba and junior Cody Holliday each added two hits for Wilmington.
Holliday (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up five runs (all earned) and five hits in just one-third inning of work. Wilmington used seven pitchers on the afternoon, with freshman Anthony Cimabue getting the start. Cimabue gave up two hits and no runs in his two innings of work.

WILMINGTON SWEPT BY PHILADELPHIA
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were swept by the host Rams of Philadelphia University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball action on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. Wilmington fell 4-2 in the first game, and lost the second 1-0 in 11 innings.
Philadelphia jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added two more in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead heading into the seventh. The Wildcats were able to score two, as seniors Brian Testa and Mike Wilson each recorded RBIs, but that would be as close as Wilmington would get as the Rams held on for the 4-2 win.
Sophomore southpaw Cameron Saienni (4-1) suffered the loss, scattering 11 hits and four runs (all earned) over five innings. Kyle Noonan picked up the win, while John Pugh earned the save for the Rams.
Senior Chris Brooks had two of the Wildcats four hits, as the offense struggled, stranding 10 runners on bases despite 11 walks from the Philadelphia starting pitcher.
The second game was a pitcher’s duel as Wilmington’s Joe Matterer and Philadelphia’s Brian Rousseau kept the two teams scoreless through regulation. In the bottom of the 11th, the Rams were able to plate the winning run as Matt Fisher singled home Devin Conroy.
Matterer three eight scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and struck out eight. Senior Clint Kuhl added two innings of relief before giving way to sophomore Steve Messick (0-2) who suffered the loss. Mark Piefry earned the win for Philadelphia, throwing four scoreless innings to end the game.
The Wildcat offense left 14 runners on base, and were able to record just eight hits. Junior Cody Holiday was 3-for-5 with a double for Wilmington.
Following the games, Wilmington dropped to 14-5 in the CACC and 21-20 on the season, while Philadelphia improved to 13-6 in the conference and 15-18 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon when they travel to take on the Chargers of Dominican College in a CACC game beginning at 3:00 PM.

WILMINGTON TURNS BACK DOMINICAN, 13-7

ORANGEBURG, NY -- The Dominican College baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game this afternoon to the visiting Wilmington University Wildcats, 13-7 at Veteran's Memorial Field.
The Wildcats got on the board with two runs in the second inning on a sacrifice ground out and fly ball to the out field. Wilmington tacked on five runs in the third on four hits to take a 7-0 lead.
The Chargers answered back with five runs in the bottom of the third as a bases loaded walk to Jason Berrios allowed a run to score, followed by a fielder's choice by Dan Robinson which plated Jonathan Ryan and a Wilmington error allowed Willie Mann to score. A second error allowed Robinson to score, and a RBI ground out by designated hitter Michael Munoz cut the Wildcat lead to 7-5.
Wilmington added a run in the fourth on an RBI single by senior Joe Danks, but Dominican responded in the bottom stanza with a run on the sacrifice fly by Ryan to score Marc Mortellaro who had led off the inning with a double down the right field line.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the sixth on a three run shot over the right field fence by Danks. The Chargers got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on the fielder's choice to Berrios to make the score 11-7.
Wilmington ended the scoring with a two run seventh inning, on a two run homer by junior Cody Holliday for the final 13-7 victory.
Senior Jimmy Okoniewski (3-2) earned the win in six innings of work, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits. Freshman Drew Anusky earned his first save of the season, throwing three scoreless innings of relief. Dominican starter Brian Craig took the loss (1-3) in two innings, allowing four runs on three hits.
With the loss, Dominican falls to 21-21 overall and 13-8 in the CACC, while the Wildcats improve to 22-20 overall and 15-5 in the CACC. The teams wrap up the three game series tomorrow with a double-header at Wilmington University beginning at 12:00 PM.

CHARGERS SWEEP WILMINGTON
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were swept by the visiting Chargers of Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. Dominican won game one by a 5-0 score, and completed the sweep with a 9-6 victory in the nightcap.
Dominican’s Michael Mondesir was outstanding the opening, hurling a one-hit shutout while striking out seven in the complete game victory. Jonathan Ryan wan 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Dan Robinson was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Wilmington managed only one hit, a single by senior Chris Brooks. Freshman Anthony Cimabue (3-4) suffered the loss, giving up six hits and four runs (all earned) over three and two-thirds innings of work.
The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the second game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Chargers put up four in the top of the fourth, but Wilmington answered right back with four of their own in the bottom of the frame. Dominican added another four spot in the top of the fifth, and a single run in the sixth, to come away with the 9-6 victory.
Senior Mike Wilson led the ‘Cats, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while junior Cody Holliday was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBIs. Senior Brian Testa went 2-for4 with two runs scored and a RBI, while classmate Joe Roth added two hits and a run scored.
Dominican was paced by Jonathan Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Mario Lopez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Robert Iglesias was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Following the games, Wilmington dropped to 15-7 in the CACC and 22-22 on the season, while Dominican improved to 15-8 in the conference and 23-21 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Golden Bears of Kutztown University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.

WILMINGTON TAKES A PAIR FROM KUTZTOWN
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the visiting Golden Bears of Kutztown University in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field. Wilmington won game one by a 6-3 score, and completed the sweep with a 13-11 victory in the nightcap.
Kutztown scored three runs in the top of the second, before Wilmington answered back with one in the bottom of the third. The Wildcats plated two in the fourth and three more in the sixth to come away with the 6-3 win.
Senior Joe Danks was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while classmate Brian Testa was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Freshman Zach Wolfe added two hits for Wilmington. Junior Sean Gorham (3-1) earned the win, scattering six hits and three runs (all earned) over five innings of work. Sophomore Phil Aviola picked up his second save of the year, throwing two hitless innings of relief.
Wilmington plated five runs in the bottom of the first, after Kutztown took a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats added four more in the second, as to break a 5-5 tie after the Golden Bears scored four in the top half of the frame. With the visitors holding an 11-10 lead, Wilmington added three more in the fifth to take a 13-10 lead, and held on to win by that same score.
Senior Spike Austin was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs, while freshman Matt Umba was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Classmate Chaz Losito was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Brian Testa added two hits and scored two runs. Junior Cody Holliday was 1-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBI.
Senior Bill Cecconi (1-2) earned the win, giving up two runs and two hits in two-thirds inning of relief. Freshman Drew Anuski earned his second save, throwing two innings and giving up just one hit and one run.
Following the games, Wilmington improved to 24-22 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Rams of Philadelphia University in a CACC game beginning at 3:00 PM.
4/29/2008 – PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
WILDCATS EDGED BY PHILADELPHIA, 6-5 IN 11 INNINGS
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University, 6-5 in eleven innings in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Rams jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning, and added another run in the top of the sixth to make the scored 3-0. Wilmington answered back with a single run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1. Philadelphia added another run in the top of the seventh, before a four spot in the bottom of the frame by the Wildcats gave the hosts a 5-4 lead. The Rams added another run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at five, and won it in the top of the eleventh on a RBI groundout by John Pugh.
Senior left-hander Bill Cecconi (2-2) suffered the loss, giving up the winning run in the eleventh inning. John Pugh earned the win for Philadelphia, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
Wilmington was led by senior Brian Testa, who went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Classmate Joe Danks was 3-for-5 with a solo home run, while senior Spike Austin added one hit and two RBIs. Freshman Zach Wolfe added two hits for the Wildcats.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 15-8 in the CACC and 24-23 overall, while Philadelphia improved to 16-7 in the conference and 18-19 on the season. The Wildcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when the travel to take on the Fightin’ Blue Hens of the University of Delaware in a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 PM.

WILMINGTON DOWNED BY DELAWARE, 12-0

NEWARK, DE -- Every starter on the University of Delaware baseball team recorded at least one hit, while six pitchers combined to shut out the Wilmington lineup as the Blue Hens cruised to a 12-0 victory during non-conference action at Bob Hannah Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Four players had multi-hit games, led by Kyle Davis (at right) and Chris Nehl who both roped three hits against the Wildcats. Scott Shockley and Jared Olson also added two apiece, while Ryan Cuneo extended his career-long hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the sixth.
Delaware (16-27) struck early, scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the first off Wilmington starter Steve Messick (0-3). Davis led off with a single to left before moving to third on a Wildcat error and scoring on an RBI fielder’s choice by Shockley. Later, Cuneo added a sacrifice fly and Nehl ripped a run-scoring double to center to put the Hens up by three.
Although the inning was marred by errors, Wilmington shortstop Zach Wolfe made the defensive play of the game to end the Blue Hen rally. On a shot to his right, Wolfe made an out-stretched diving play before getting back on his feet to catch Jared Olson by a step at first base.
Wilmington (24-23) looked poised to get on the board in the fourth when the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out after Joe Danks singled, Mike Wilson reached on an error, and Spike Austin got a hit to left. Despite the jam, reliever Steve Spiese, making his first appearance in nearly two months, came away unscathed as he struck out Wolfe before getting Joe Roth to line out to second.
The following inning, the Hens used a two-out rally to stretch their lead to five. During the frame, Davis walked and moved to third on a single by Josh Dean. On the front-end of a double steal, Davis swiped home for the first run of the inning, while Dean came around on an RBI single by Shockley.
The Hens continued to pad their lead, scoring five runs over the next two innings to grab a 10-0 advantage. Steve Ulaky, who was starting in leftfield for the first time in his career, roped an RBI single to highlight the team’s two-run fifth. Nehl slammed a two-run double in Delaware’s sixth-inning rally to push the team’s lead to double-digits.
Two innings later, the Hens capped the scoring with two more runs in the eighth. Bill Merkler led off with a single and moved to second after Jon Duvall worked a walk. Davis chased home the first run with a run-scoring double to left center, while Todd Menchaca followed with an RBI groundout.
While the offense continued to surge, the Delaware pitching staff remained sturdy throughout the game. Before moving over to the DH slot, Olson started on the mound for the Hens, striking out four over three innings of scoreless ball. Spiese (1-0), who notched the win, followed with two shutout frames, while Corey Crispell, Alex Dalsey, Brad Miller, and David Slovak chipped in with one spotless inning apiece.
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday evening, when they travel to play host to the Griffins of Chesnut Hill College in a CACC game beginning at 7:00 PM.

WILDCATS HOLD OFF GRIFFINS

NORTH WALES, PA –– Trailing 5-1, Chestnut Hill College rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but sophomore pitcher Phil Aviola retired the final out with the bases full of Griffins stealing the 5-3 win. Wilmington University held a 2-1 advantage after six innings; the Wildcats scored a run in each of their final three at-bats, before the two run Griffin ninth.
The Chestnut Hill College (7-30, 5-19) ninth inning opened with a double to right field from freshman catcher Bryan Henry. Back-to-back strikeouts left Henry in scoring position with freshman shortstop George Kochu at the plate. Kochu drew a walk and a passed ball moved Henry to third, for sophomore third baseman D.J. Santoro Santoro knocked Wildcat senior starter Jimmy Okoniewski from the contest with a run scoring single to left field. Freshman left fielder Dan Etherton followed Santoro with a single up the middle for another Griffin tally, 5-3. However, Aviola managed to escape with a save and earning a conference win for Wilmington University (24-25, 16-8).
Junior left fielder Cody Holliday singled home two runs in the third inning supplying the Wildcats with a 2-0 lead. He led Wilmington University with three hits and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Okoniewski struck out nine allowing three runs on 11 hits; he walked two in the win.
The Griffins scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, freshman right fielder Kevin Dumicich scored on a Henry RBI-single cutting the Wildcat led to 2-1. Henry was 2-for-4 and was one of four Griffins to record two hits. Freshman first baseman Mike Knipe led with three hits including a double deep centerfield. Etherton and freshman second baseman Alex Sacchetti also provided two-hit performances. Sophomore pitcher Ryan Weber allowed two earned runs through seven innings; he struck out two in the loss.

WILMINGTON SPLITS WITH FELICIAN

LYNDHURST, NJ -- Felician College earned an 8-3 victory over visiting Wilmington (Del.) University in Game 1 of the teams’ Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Breslin Field. Wilmington (26-25, 17-9) rebounded to take Game 2, 3-1, setting up a do-or-die scenario for both teams when they meet in Sunday’s conference finale.
In the opener, Felician erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. A three-run homerun by Marcos Torres capped the Golden Falcons’ five-run fourth.
Felician right-hander Albie Sanguiliano (3-1) scattered seven hits in a complete-game effort. He struck out two and walked two. Torres was one of four Golden Falcons with two base hits; teammate Mike Libretta was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Cody Holliday accounted for all of the Wildcat offense, blasting a solo homerun in the first inning and a two-run shot in the seventh.
Wilmington pitcher Clint Kuhl entered with the tying runs on second and third in the nightcap to record the final two outs. The Golden Falcons (25-21, 16-10) had one hit through five innings off of starter Joe Matterer, then rallied but fell short in each of the final two frames. Matterer struck out two and gave up five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Felician lefty Al Jardine (2-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Zack Wolfe singled and eventually scored on Joe Roth’s double. Mike Wilson and Wolfe had RBI singles in the fifth. Torres went 2 for 3, and Dave Schoer had an RBI single.
The teams play Sunday in New Castle, Del., with the winner clinching a CACC playoff berth.

WILDCATS END SEASON WITH 13-4 LOSS TO FELICIAN

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Golden Falcons of Felician College racked up 17 base hits, including 15 in the first five innings, in its 13-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball victory over host Wilmington (Del.) University on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field. With the win, Felician edged out Wilmington on a tiebreaker for the fourth and final spot in next week’s CACC playoffs.
Felician (26-21, 17-10) broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the third inning off of Wilmington starter Steve Messick (0-3). When the Wildcats brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom half, the Golden Falcons replaced starter Jeff Calabrese, who was working on three days’ rest, with fellow right-hander Scott VanEs. VanEs allowed one inherited runner to score before inducing a fly ball to end the inning.
Felician then battered the Wilmington bullpen for nine runs on nine hits over the next two innings for a commanding 13-1 edge. Three consecutive base hits with two on and two out in the fourth, capped by a two-run single from Hector Bello, plated four runs. Marcos Torres highlighted the Golden Falcons’ five-run fifth with a two-run double. The Wildcats used four pitchers to get through the fourth and fifth, and eight for the game.
VanEs (3-3) worked through the seventh inning, in the process becoming the first pitcher in Felician history to record 200 career strikeouts. He yielded a solo homerun to Cody Holliday in the fifth among three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. VanEs struck out four and walked one.
Torres finished 3 for 6 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI to cap off a 7 for 12 performance in the three-game weekend series against the Wildcats. Leadoff man Mickey Zudonyi also had three hits, and Dave Schoer went 2 for 3 with a double, scored three runs and drove in two. Chris Brooks was 3 for 4 for Wilmington (26-26, 17-10).
