Export or Archive Your Course
To save your course or course content for re-use in a different/later course:
- Log in to Blackboard.
- Select the course you wish to archive in your course list.
- Click on "Control Panel" in the Tools menu.
- Click on "Export Course" or "Archive Course" in the "Course Options" section of the Control Panel.
- In the toolbar, click either "Export" or "Archive":
- Export creates a compressed ".zip" file containing only course content that you select which you can then import into another Blackboard course at a later time. Most instructors should choose this option.
- Choose the areas you wish to have archived by selecting the check boxes.
- Click Submit.
- Archive creates an archive that can be used to restore your entire Blackboard course at a later time. Only the Blackboard Administrator can restore a course from an Archive. Use Archive only to save a course for backup or archival purposes.
- Under the Course Selection heading, verify the course you wish to Archive or Export.
- Click Submit.

- The next page confirms that your archive or export was created successfully and that you will be notified by email that your file is ready (this is usually instantaneous).
- Click OK.
- If your file is ready, right-click the name of your archive/exported file and save the file to your own computer. If no file name appears on this page, check your email for confirmation of the creation of this file. One you receive the confirmation, return to this page to download the file.
- Once you have saved the file to your computer, file it away in a safe place on your computer or make a backup copy to CD.
- Exported courses can be decompressed on your own comptuer to access individual course content files. Most computers will automatically decompress "Zip" files when opening them by double-clicking.
- Archived courses may only be restored by the Blackboard Administrator. Contact the Blackboard System Administrator if you would like this done.
