Frequently Asked Questions

A:   The DBA program is a part-time program, with students typically taking 2 classes a semester (fall, spring, and summer) with a total of 6 a year. Each class follows the 7 week block format. Therefore students can expect to take 2 ½ years to complete the coursework stage. The dissertation stage takes on average another 1 to 2 years to complete. Students have 7 years to complete the program in its entirety.

A:   The DBA program is rolling admissions, therefore we process completed applications as they are received. Therefore there are no admissions deadlines. However we encourage applicants interested in applying to submit as early as possible, as we close admissions for a cohort once all space has been filled.

A:   Typically cohorts range in size from 12 to 18 people.

A:   No, students are expected to start the program with the cohort they have been accepted for. If an accepted student is interested in taking classes before the start of their cohort, the program recommends brushing up on academic writing and finance courses.

A:   Yes, we can accept up to six transfer credits from a doctoral-level class that has not been used to obtain a degree. If you have started another doctoral degree program, these are eligible. All transfer credit requests are decided by the Program Director. Master-level classes are not eligible for transfer.

A:   Once we fill a cohort, we no longer admit applicants to that cohort. However we will process and review applications for the next available cohort. We list currently available cohorts on our admissions page and our welcome page.

A:   The expectation of incoming DBA students is that they start in the cohort that they intend to finish in. However if there is a need to switch formats we will certainly try to accommodate. If students are interested in taking more than two classes a semester, a request must be made to the Program Director.

A:   Online classes in the DBA program do have real-time, interactive sessions where students interact with their follow classmates as well as their instructor. Similar to regular class times, online students will use Blackboard Collaborate to meet at a scheduled time, typically for 90 minutes. These sessions consist of lectures, class discussions, presentations, and other components. Classes also include micro groups: small group sessions as assigned by the instructor. It is expected that online students attend these sessions.
