HLT 301
First Aid, Prevention, & Care of Injuries
3 credits
This course deals with safety concepts as they relate to responsibility in schools and the community. Students receive training in first aid, and will have the opportunity to complete American Heart Association's (AHA) Basic Life Support Training. Emphasis is placed on accident prevention, first aid and emergency care, and transportation of the sick and injured.

The Power of Yoga
3 credits
Students will explore the power behind the ancient practice of yoga. The course offers each student the opportunity to develop a personal yoga practice that fosters self-awareness and discovery. With this information, students will cultivate a life-style practice that aids in the restoration and maintenance of health and wellness for the mind, body and spirit.

Personal Wellness
3 credits
Students in this course will explore the concept of holistic health. Topics include: nutrition, exercise, disease prevention, substance abuse, personal safety, mental health, stress reduction, and routine health appraisals. Each student will complete a self-appraisal of his/her own personal health state. With this information, each student will develop goals for self-improvement and create a personal wellness plan.

Men's Health Issues
3 credits
This course explores major health issues and concerns that affect men's health, including the changes that a man experiences in his health needs and concerns across the life span. This course presents current guidelines for health maintenance and wellness promotion.
HLT 357
Navigating the Health Care System
3 credits
This course will enable students to understand the impact of the healthcare system on individuals, families, and communities. Students will explore dimensions of economics, organizational structures, and advocacy in relation to consumer access and the delivery of health care.
HLT 364
The Process of Dying
3 credits
In this course, the student identifies and discusses factors affecting the dying individual and the responses of families and caregivers as they deal with the changes and events that occur with dying. This will be done within the context of age, gender, and cultural beliefs about death and grieving. Also, the student will explore current economic and ethical issues related to dying as presented by the media, in literature, and in actual experiences. The student will choose a related topic of particular interest to him/her for in-depth, individual study.

Organ Donation/Transplantation
3 credits
In this course, the student focuses on the evolution and role of organ donation and transplantation in our society. Relationships will be explored regarding the ethical, societal, and economic considerations of organ donation/transplantation. The student will also recognize the legal considerations of using such highly technological care.
HLT 367
Women's Health Issues
3 credits
This course explores major health issues and concerns that affect women's health. Current guidelines for maintaining health and promoting wellness will be included. Specific conditions and disorders of the reproductive system will be addressed. We will investigate the changes a woman experiences in her health needs and concerns at different stages of her life.
HLT 371
Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness
3 credits
The purpose of this course is to enable the student to become aware of beliefs about health and illness in relationship to the ethnicity of the health consumer. The course content will include discussion of the following topics; the perception of health and illness among healthcare providers and consumers, the cultural and institutional factors that affect the consumer's access to and the use of healthcare resources, the effect of poverty and its impact on healthcare, and the influence of faith on healing and illness.

Issues in Aging
3 credits
This course will expose students from various disciplines to the social and economic issues related to aging. Theories of aging, demographics, and research will be explored with an emphasis on assessment techniques.
HLT 379
Botanical Medicines
3 credits
The purpose of this course is to introduce the therapeutics of botanical medicines. Students will explore utilization of herbal dietary supplements by consumers/clients. Students will be review regulation and standardization of botanical medicines. Discussion groups will examine botanical medicines and their use in society.
